The Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, has commended the vice chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Nyaudo Ndaeyo, for bringing pride of excellence to Ini community.
Governor Emmanuel stated this at the grand reception of Professor Ndaeyo, put together by the people of Ikono and Ini at the council headquarters, Odoro Ikpe, Ini Local Government Area.
Representing by the secretary to the state government (SSG),Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, the governor stated that the success recorded by the vice chancellor, should therefore inspire youths of the area to possess attributes capable of inspiring them for greatness.
At the event which also featured the unveiling of the book,”Ikono: The cradle of the Ibibio Nation”, Emmanuel said the celebrated vice chancellor deserved to be honoured by his people and the state for which he was there to encourage him.
” I join you in congratulating and honouring our dear son Prof Nyaudo Ndaeyo and his 7th vice chancellor of the university of Uyo. It is often said that prophets do not have respect in their home communities but by what you are seeing here today, we have turned those notion on his heard”. He stated.
“You are gathered here today to celebrate and honour your son for bringing pride of excellence to your community, the state and the nation in general, we are indeed proud of your son. Success recorded by Professor Ndaeyo should inspire the youth of this community and inbuilt in them a “can do” spirit, in other words, the dakkada spirit.
Earlier, the chairman, Central Planning Committee, Dr Christopher Ekpeyong, opined that the occasion formed part of the traditional practices to honour their sons and daughters who have sailed through education successfully.
He added that it serves as an act of encouragement to other sons and daughters so as not to relent effort in actualizing their dreams.
“It is our tradition and practice to celebrate our sons and daughters who have shown excellent achievements in their choosen areas of endeavour. Some years ago, a similar event was performed in honour of one of our son’s who was appointed the Supreme Court judge in Nigeria.
He said the ceremony was performed by the Ikono and Ini traditional rulers and elders to serve as a mark of encouragement to other sons and daughters of the Ntippe Ibibio extraction. Like the miracles of Elijah were repeated by Elisha, Prof NyaudoNdaeyo has repeated the miracle of the first celebrant and will be emulated by other sons and daughters of Ikono and Ini.
“Today we celebrate him for his academic excellence that led to his becoming the first indigene of the Ntippe Ibibio extraction to emerge as a university vice chancellor”, he said.
Ekpenyong who is also chairing Ikono and Ini Elders Forum,described the vice chancellor as an academic celebrity, an outstanding teacher, a graceful personality, stating that his significant achievements are seen through his dedication, focus and a strong desire to excel.
Responding, the VC appreciated God for honoring his community and local government stating that it was the first time in history that somebody from that axis has been appointed as vice chancellor in Nigeria.
He, therefore, implored all to lean on God if they are to succeed in all their endeavours.
The executive chairman of Ini Local government, Mr Israel Idaisin, commended the decision of the distinguish Senate of the university for entrusting him the mandate and goodwill to pilot the affairs of the institution.
He also highlighted God’s blessings on the sons and daughters of Ini Local Government who are promoting them in various walks of life.
The former commissioner for finance, Sir Sunday Udo Akpan;commissioner for health, Dr Augustine Umoh; and commissioner for agriculture, Dr Glory Edet, expressed joy over the academic feats that Ndaeyo has attained and prayed that he goes beyond the sky limit.
Professor Ndaeyo who hails from Ikot Offiong village, Nkariclan in Ini Local Government was elected as the vice chancellor of University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
