Nigerias Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Gov. Udom Emmanuel have acknowledged the valuable contributions of Akwa Ibom national legislators to democratic progress of the state and the country.
The duo made the remarks during the inauguration of the 1.3km Ifa Ikot Akpan-Etoi Road and a multipurpose recreational complex, undertaken by the national assembly member representing Akwa Ibom North East, Senator Bassey Albert, which took place in Uyo, Saturday.
Lawan specifically stated that Akwa Ibom national legislators are exemplary by the pacesetting leadership of Senator Bassey Albert, adding that Akpan has visions and patriotic leadership qualities of placing Akwa Ibom and other national constituency interests above personal gains.
He recalled that Akpan had co-sponsored a bill into a law onthe amendment of the deep offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract in the nations interests, adding that his performance in the Senate demonstrated exemplary attributes of a passionate leader.
Lawan noted with satisfaction that Akpan has collaborated with Governor Emmanuel to achieve significantly for the people of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, adding that the duo have placed the interest of the nation as top priority in partnering the development of the country.
He remarked that the multipurpose complex built by Senator Akpan would not only be for physical fitness sports but also for mental development through education and learning, advising, I want the people of this senatorial district and the state to take advantage of it.
Emmanuel, watched by his wife, Martha, and top government personnel, said the people of Akwa Ibom have been so lucky to be blessed with the present crop of national assembly members from our dear state, noting that the national assembly members have been keeping to promises by being at the lead of attracting tangible benefits to the people of Akwa Ibom.
The governor said, Im proud of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, the leader of our states caucus in the National Assembly, and congratulate him on his thanksgiving service and inauguration of a multipurpose recreational facility in the state,” adding that it was expedient to join Akpan in appreciating God for the projects to the benefit of Akwa Ibom in recreation and tourism.
He maintained, I want to thank God that the multipurpose recreational complex has been dedicated to God and I want to join my voice in saying that this place shall be for peace, tranquility and development of our people, advising the beneficiaries of the projects to adequately safeguard it against destruction.
Akpan stated that the thanksgiving and the inauguration of the projects were appreciations to reflect on Gods mercies upon his life, remarking that God has shown mercy throughout his life.
He reiterated that the multipurpose project was designed to meet the needs of the people in the state, adding that 30 pioneer students would be presented certificates from the ICT training center of the complex, adding that the people of Akwa Ibom would have benefits to derive from other service at the multi-purpose complex, while similar roads have been built in Ibesikpo Asutan, Etinan, Nsit Ubium and Uyo Local Government Areas.
Akpan, accompanied by his wife, Imaobong-Nkeiru, said, There is nothing as good as thanking God in the presence of the congregation of believers, to thank the only God that has been there for me from the beginning and most especially if you find a man like me that God has helped, maintaining, Im one man that God has helped. Where you are seated is on 3-hectares of land with a standard football field, lawn tennis and basketball court, a health care post, as well as an ICT Center to drill people on digital proficiency training.
He appreciated God for the clement weather and grace for the successful thanksgiving and projects inauguration as well asexpressed appreciation to Lawan, Emmanuel, colleagues at the National Assembly, clerics, traditional rulers, members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, members of various socio-political groups, students and women for attending the event.
The event, which had the theme, Lord We Are Grateful, from Psalms 9:1 and 1 Corinthians 15:57, featured exhortations by Reverend Ntia Ntia and prayers by a large gathering of classes of persons.
