Gov Udom Emmanuel has condemned the use of violence to attain heights of victory at pre-general elections.

Consequently, Emmanuel has cautioned political aspirants to desist from adoption of instruments of violence to intimidate delegates for votes at congresses.

Emmanuel made the remarks in an assessment of the Ekiti State PDP governorship primaries during an interview with journalists at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, Friday.

The governor said that using the gun and other instruments of violence to secure victory at primaries was a cover-up of real intentions of service, cautioning that in the coming elections “whoever carries a gun to seek attention is not going to serve the people but himself and if you want to serve the people, you cannot serve the people with a gun”.

Emmanuel stated that the undertones of violent instruments at primaries show early signs of absence of peace from any political office seeker, explaining that the public has the liberty to unravel ill intentions of political aspirants in party primaries of states.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Ekiti StatePDP governorship primary election, explaining that the exercise was transparent, fair and credible to frustrate all prepared rooms for trouble by any of the contestants.

He remarked that all the aspirants gave excellent marks for integrity in all the processes from accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, and the declaration of results, appreciating the national chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for the opportunity to serve the party at the congress level of another state.

Emmanuel debunked false insinuations of unfair treatment and disenfranchisement of some aspirants, maintaining that the process was void of malpractices and created no room for expression of ill behaviours that would have given grounds to discredit the exercise, while calling on participants to acknowledge the supremacy of the party and poll to victory in the general election.
