Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has rose in stout defense of his deputy, Mr Phillip Shuaibu, blaming his deputy as being responsible for the misrepresentations which have since trailed his outbursts.
Obaseki stated that, as a matter of fact, his deputy actually hit the nail on the head while narrating how the APC defectors who joined the PDP in the run up to the Edo 2020 guber election, have been frozen out by the old PDP members who, out of external influences, have rejected every overture for proper harmonization of the party structure.
In an open letter to his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, in the form of an advertorial in some national dailies and titled PDP is not your private property, Edo cannot be procured, GovObaseki berated Wike for his unwarranted verbal attack on Shaibu.
Apparently in defense of his deputy, he said, My deputy was a former national president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and his comment is representative of the nation’s youth population, who are inclined to openly speak up and question the status quo.
Days back, Governor Wike called Shaibu unprintable names and also accused him of using the Benin reception rally held in honour of Dr Iyorchia Ayu, PDP National Chairman, who was in the state for some urgent party engagements, to threaten the party.
According to Wike, the Shuaibu outbursts was unnecessary and unforgivable because it sounded more like that of a betrayal and an ingrate.
Gov Wike recalled how the PDP rescued the Obaseki loyalists who defected into the party after they were chased out of the APC, adding as ingrates, they are now bold enough to challenge the landlord of the house as to how he raised the funds to build his house.
