Gov. Udom Emmanuel has directed the payment of one year leave grant to primary school teachers in the state.
In addition, the governor has announced approvals for the construction of over 15 kilometres of major roads in parts of the state.
Emmanuel made the announcement during an interview with journalists after a session of the State Executive Council meeting which took place at Government House, Uyo, Wednesday.
He mentioned that the directive for payment to primary school teachers was part of interventions to relieve burden on financial challenges, hoping that the gesture would also boost the teaching morale of the affected personnel.
Emmanuel hinted that the approvals for more roadsconstructions by the State Executive Council cover the re-awarding of contract for the 5.0 kilometres T-junction of the Mary Slessor Hospital Road in Itu Local Government Area, remarking that the re-awarded contract on the road would be constructed with a 30 meters span of bridge in the local government area.
The governor also stated that the State Executive Council approved the award of contract for the construction of 13.6 kilometres Orukim-Unyenghe-Universal Energy Road to Ibom Deep Seaport with two bridges in Mbo Local Government Area, adding that contract for the construction of the 6.6 kilometres outfall drain, the construction of pedestrian bridge and service ducts on the Oron-Airport Road in Uyo was also approved.
He remarked that the State Executive Council also had deliberations on updates by the Ministry of Health on the status of construction at the Akwa Ibom State University Teaching Hospital (AKSUTH), while it also charged the Ministry of Environment and Solid Minerals alongside the Ministry of Transport to ensure that illegal markets along roads are removedin the state.
The State Executive Council meeting had in attendance thedeputy governor, Mr Moses Ekpo; the secretary to the state government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem; the head of the civil service, Elder Effiong Essien; commissioners and special advisers.
