EKET

The people of Eket/Esit Eket/Onna/Ibeno Federal Constituency through the stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area have declared their stance supporting the party, holding that there is no going back on their resolution to sustain the entrenchment of PDP in their Federal Constituency at the 2023 polls.

Ventilating their position recently in Eket at the federal constituency tour of PDP, political leaders in the area who spoke glowingly about the party, said nothing can make them rescind their decision to stand by the party in the build-up to and during the upcoming general elections, adding that Eket Federal Constituency knows no other party than PDP.
Earlier, the state chairman of PDP, Elder Aniekan Akpan, at the visit who was on hand to receive numerous defectors from APC, noted that Eket Federal Constituency is outstanding in contributing to the growth of the party, especially in registering new members in the last few months.
“We are impressed with Eket Federal Constituency particularly for the leading figures of new registrants in the ongoing e-registration. These fresh defectors also count for your achievement”, he said.
Speaking further, he advised players in the politics of Eket Federal Constituency to maintain the ideals of the party and in furtherance of Governor Emmanuel’s peace agenda.
“If you look back at the founding ideals of PDP and those who bore the burden of nursing the party, you will salute the hard work put in to raise the party to this level. It will therefore be totally unfair to derail from those democratic principles that we came to see.
“We must also remember who is the leader of the party in the state. Gov. Udom Emmanuel is the leader of the party and he must be respected. On no account should anyone insult the governor while pursuing his aspiration. You cannot, if disrespect the leader and expect to be respected as a leader too.”
A former state legislator and serving commissioner for special duties, Mr Okpolupm Etteh, who welcomed the state party delegation, told the chairman that as a mark of gratitude for the visionary leadership PDP has given Akwa Ibom, Eket Federal Constituency will not fail to remain committed to the cause of the party.
“Since 1998, PDP has not just been the only party known to our people, but Akwa Ibom has enjoyed good leadership provided by PDP. We are committed to the party and our leader, Governor Udom Emmanuel who has shown capacity in leadership. It is a mark of gratitude to support PDP”, Etteh said.
Similarly, former Eket Council boss and serving commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Frank Archibong, affirmed their earlier positions ventilated by other speakers and specially told the State Party Chairman that Eket Federal Constituency will support the party to give its leadership a clean record of victory like the predecessors enjoyed.
In his words, “We didn’t have to speak again about supporting PDP because it is our character to support the party. Mr chairman, we will specifically stand by you to achieve victory, let it also be recorded for you like it was recorded for others before you.”
Also speaking at the meeting were Mr Sampson Iyoho, Onna Council chairman, Mr Iniabasi Ekanem, PDP chapter chairman of Eket and others who spoke in agreement to the resolution of the stakeholders and party faithful.
