BENIN CITY

The Edo State government and leaders of the Edo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have agreed on a one-week notice for drivers to renew their driver’s licence and vehicle particulars, before commencement of enforcement for compliance.

The chairman, Edo State chapter of the NURTW, Comrade Odion Olaye, in a statement after the meeting, said enforcement will now begin from Monday, August 15, 2022.

He said the agreement was reached at the meeting between leaders of the union and the Edo State commissioner for transportation, Mr. Osasere M. Evbuomwan.

“In the meeting, it was resolved that one week notice be given to commercial drivers in the state to renew their vehicle particulars and driver’s licence. Consequently, a special team will be set up by the state government to commence the implementation of the obtainance of vehicle particulars and driver’s licence.

“All commercial vehicle operators are expected to comply with the one-week notice to renew their vehicle particulars and driver’s licence. From Monday, August 15, 2022, the enforcement team will swing into action,” he said.

Olaye commended the state government for extending the implementation of the arrest of commercial vehicle colour code defaulters in Edo State.

He added, “The deadline for all commercial vehicle operators to comply with the Edo State colour code is now December 31,2022. From January 1, 2023, any commercial vehicle not painted with Edo State colour code will be arrested and prosecuted.

“All commercial drivers are hereby advised to comply with this directive.”
