The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has rati- fied the audited reports
of 2017 and 2018 accounts of the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom during its plenary.
The ratification of the accounts followed a report of the Public Accounts Committee as submit- ted before the House by the committee’s chairman, Dr Char- ity Ido, during the day’s plenary session.
Recall that the House had on Thursday, December23 went on a Christmas break and resumed full plenary today, June 11.
Ido’s report was the only item
on the Order Paper considered for the day’s plenary.

Presenting the committee’s re- port for ratification by the House, the chairman, Public Accounts, Dr. Charity Ido noted that as part of the committee’s constitutional obligations, the Public Accounts Committee took time to pains- takingly review the 2017/2018 unresolved queries of each coun- cil and amount involved were highlighted in the Domestic Re- ports of the auditor general for local governments.

According to the member representing Ukanafun in the State House, the committee considered the audited report of each council on the merit, invited and interacted with the officials of the councils as well as those who were indicted by the reports.

“The committee relied on the regulatory instruments the Financial Memoranda (FM), Operational Guidelines for Chairmen of Local Government Councils, State Government Audit Laws and Financial Circular as appropriate and applicable to arrive at her decisions.

“Mr speaker, distinguished colleagues, at the end of the exer- cise, the committee in collabora- tion with the Office of the Audi- tor-General for Local Govern- ments successfully reviewed, reconciled and waived several cases after having satisfied explanation and justifiable documents ten- dered as evidence by the councils and those indicted by the re- ports”, she submitted.
The report was however rati- fied by the speaker, Elder Aniekan Bassey.
