The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has continued to seek collaboration with relevant stakeholders ahead of the planned 2023 Akwa Ibom Governorship Debate.

The NUJ Political Committee tasked with the responsibility of organising the governorship debate at a consultative visit to the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) sought the partnership of the union to host the debate.

Chairman of the NUJ Political Committee, Comrade Aniekan Udofia, said that the NUJ is only driving the project and cannot do it without the backing of the NLC which is the mother union. He added that in order to strengthen the debate, the NUJ has been seeking collaboration with several unions and stakeholders within the society.

In his response, state chairman of NLC, Comrade Sunny James, commended the committee for the well-thought-out plan for the debate. He said it was necessary to have a platform that will test the candidates who have put themselves forward to govern the state.

Comrade James assured the committee that the NLC will play a pivotal role in the planned debate. He added that in the coming days, the Political Committee of the NLC and that of the NUJ will meet to work out a very effective plan to ensure that all affiliate unions under the NLC join the collaboration.
