IKOT EKPENE

As the 2023 general elections draw near, youths of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District under the umbrella of the Supreme Council of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Youths have dissociated themselves from the purported adoption of a certain aspirant and called for a level playing field for all those aspiring for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly.

Arising from an enlarged meeting of the body yesterday at Ikot Ekpene, the youth called on all the aspirants from other federal constituencies in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to drop their aspiration, pointing out that it is the turn of Abak-Etim Ekpo-Ika Federal Constituency to produce the next senator for the district, being the only federal constituency that has never tasted the seat in their history.

Addressing journalists at the end of the council meeting, the national president, Adede Godwin Matthew, frowned at a situation where some aspirants pay money to individuals and groups for adoption, describing their action as undemocratic and unacceptable.

Adede Matthew, while reacting to the purported adoption of a certain aspirant by Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Youths, described the purported adoption as false and misleading, stressing that the youths of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District have not adopted any aspirant.

The national president hinted that the youth will not support anybody that has been in government for the past years, as according to him, they want a vibrant and dynamic young man who will bring fresh ideas that will attract the much-needed dividends of democracy to the people of the senatorial district.

Adede Matthew flanked by other national executive members, explained that after carefully assessing all the aspirants whohave so far emerged for the seat, the Supreme Youth Council has decided to queue behind and mobilize support for Mr. Raphael Amos, an engineer.

He described Amos as a vibrant, dynamic, humble, God-fearing and highly intelligent young man who has the interest of the people of the senatorial district at heart.

The national president called on the public to disregard the said adoption, assuring that the youth will resist any attempt to impose a consensus candidate on the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

Meanwhile, the students of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District under the aegis of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Students Union, have pledged their support for the aspiration of Mr. Raphael Amos.

Speaking with journalists in Uyo, the president of the union, Comrade Israel Martin, said the reason for supporting Amos is based on the fact that he is a student-friendly personality who wants to see the people of the senatorial district going to school so as to become useful and responsible citizens in future.

Comrade Martin thanked Amos for his recent distribution of educational materials to students of the area.
