A former youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Valentine Asuen, has picked the party ticket for Edo South Senatorial District in 2023 election.

He defeated a former Edo State deputy governor, Lucky Imasuen, during the election on Saturday at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Sports Complex in Benin.

Asuen, an oil dealer polled 215 votes while Imasuen who joined the race two weeks ago, secured 160 votes out of 379 total votes in the election that recorded four invalid votes.

Imasuen who was Edo State coordinator of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), gave pat on the back of the winner of the contest and wished him well.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole won the APC nomination for Edo North Senatorial District while Monday Okpebholo emerged as APC Senatorial Candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District in the primaries on Saturday.
