The Uyo Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE) Bawa Hamidu Saidu, has called on children across the country to steer clear of internet-related crimes and be more focused on their studies.
He gave the charge on Saturdayin Uyo while marking the Children’s Day celebration in a time-out with children of secondary school age, drawn from different schools in the state.
Bawa who spoke through the Head, Public Affairs Department of the command, Chief Superintendent of the EFCC (CSE)Theresa Nwosu, admonished the children on the dangers that come with getting involved in any type of crime.
“Run away from every form of internet fraud because even if you’re not caught today, you will be caught tomorrow because the internet does not forget,” he said.
A quiz competition was organised by the commission to test school children’s awareness and depth about the work of the EFCC.
Participants were made to respond to questions on the activities of the commission, cybercrime, economic and financial crimes, penalties for corrupt practices, among others.
Three winners emerged from the competition and were rewarded with EFCC branded items.
The overall winner was Israel Mandor of Nigerian Christian Institute Early Learning CentrewithOgidan Joshua Olakunle and SangasangaOkonetuk as first and second runners-up respectively.
The event was organized by Jewels Young Women group.
