UKANAFUN…
Ahead of 2023 general elections, stakeholders in UkanafunLocal Government Area have overwhelmingly adopted the personal assistant to the governor, Evangelist Emem Udom, as a sole aspirant for Ukanafun State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly come 2023.
The adoption was one of the major highlights of an enlarged stakeholders meeting of Ukanafun Local Government Area hosted by the Ukanafun political leader, Obong Eno Akpan.
Akpan described Udom as the most visible and acceptable aspirant from Afaha Bloc and urged the people to support him.
He appreciated the unity and cordial relationship among the political class in the area and for sustaining the peace brought by Gov Udom Emmanuel years ago.
Akpan urged the stakeholders to continue to live together and maintain the prevailing peace in the area and beyond.
The political leader said that for fairness, equity, good conscience, peace and mutual co-existence and coupled with the fact that the immediate-past member that represented UkanafunState constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly served an uninterrupted single term of four years, there was need to maintain the status quo.
He posited that over the years, the Ukanafun State Constituency seat rotates on a single term basis between Ukanafun and Afahapolitical blocs, and in view of the prevailing fragile political atmosphere and environment in the area, the Ukanafun State House of Assembly Seat is zoned to the Afaha political bloc.
Udom appreciated God for his choice, stakeholders for unanimously adopting him and the confidence repose in him, promising to render effective and selfless representation to justify the trust.
Udom called on all to team up with him to succeed and to take the state constituency to an enviable height.
The member for Ukanafun State Constituency, Dr Charity Ido,admitted that Ukanafun State Constituency seat has been rotating between Ukanafun and Afaha political blocs but that there was need for a legislator to go for a second term to become a ranking member.
The commissioner one, Local Government Service Commission and a one-term State House of Assembly member, Obong Saturday Akpan, said he subscribed to Afaha bloc to produce the next member of the House of Assembly as the time was not ripe to shift the age-long tradition for peace and justice to prevail.
He commended Ido for her leadership style but advised that she should not allow people to mislead her. The former minister of national planning and a political chieftain in the area, Chief Senas Ukpanah, concurred that it was the turn of Afaha to produce Ukanafun State Constituency member in 2023 for peace and progress of Ukanafun.
The Ukanafun chapter coordinator of the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), Mr Ekpenyong Ekpenyong, enjoined all to abide by the decision of the stakeholders of Ukanafun on the choice of representatives and beckoned on all to sustain peace as no personal ambition should instigate crisis in the area.
On behalf of the college of personal aides to the governor and senior special assistant, coordinator, Department of Multilateral and Donor Agency, Deacon Ndiana-Abasi, said they would align themselves with the decision of the stakeholders.
The Ukanafun chapter chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Elder Godwin Ekpe, made a case for stakeholders to always brief those jostling for political offices on time before consensus as such would stop others from unnecessary spendings, adding that it was Afaha turn to produce the next House of Assembly member come 2023.
The immediate-past chairman of Ukanafun, Prince Uko Idiongand former member, House of Representatives, Obong Sabbath Obot, averred that second term was good though it was also expedient for Afaha political bloc to produce the next assemblyman since the current member is from Ukanafun bloc.
At the end of the meeting and after an exhaustive discussion on some topical and burning issues on the affairs of the state and Ukanafun State Constituency, the stakeholders unanimously zoned the Ukanafun State House of Assembly Seat in 2023 to Afaha bloc and adopted Evangelist Emem Udom as the sole aspirant for the House of Assembly come 2023.
The stakeholders warned that anybody or person found challenging or violating, aiding or abetting the violation of the resolution would be sanctioned.
