Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport while exercising its constructional right as enshrine in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the standing order of the House of Assembly, Friday, commend Akwa Ibom State government for urgently intervening on the collapsed road at Mkpok Road in Eket Urban.
It could be recalled that the breakdown news has been so trending this days that drew the expedite intervention of Governor Udom Emmanuel for the interest of Eket people and other road users, leading the committee’s entourage to the oversight inspection by its chairman, Mr David Lawrence, and member representing Eket State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, to the site constructed by Bulletin Construction Company.
The managing director of the company, Chief Faysal Harb, said the initial culvert that was done was not sufficient for the volume of water that was coming in, noting that the suspended Ring Culvert was just 900 by 900 diametres, which the high volume of water had cut off.
Chief Faysal Harb said his company, is however building two by three double cell box culvert to effectively channel the high volume of water appropriately and in respect to the usage to 100 per cent local content law to Eket community which was affirmed by the community leaders.
On the quality of the job, the managing director assured the lawmakers that his company has enough and qualified manpower to execute the contract to specification and appealed to the law makers not to entertain any fear.
According to Faysal, the project would have been completed, if not for the incessant down pour witnessed in the area almost on daily basis, and assured the people’s representatives that the project will be completed this month.
Member of the community, while speaking through the community chairman, Dr E.E. Etteh, expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for his timely intervention, stressing that, delay would not have been in the best interest of the people of the area.
The community members also attested to the quality of work done by the contractor.
The oversight event had in attendance, Mr Effiong Bassey, MrDavid Lawrence, Elder Mark Esset, Mr Uduak Odudoh, MrIfiok Udo, Mr Mfon Idung, the committee clerk, Mr Uduak Ebong Okon, Mrs. Unwana Idungagah and others.
