LONDON
The first female Nigerian and Akwa Ibom State-born United Kingdom councillor, Princess Peace Priscilla Essien, has been urged to mentor young people on entrepreneurial skills acquisition and self development towards making them great in their life aspirations.
To this end, Essien has been urged to seek out ways of embarking on outreaches to schools to coach young Akwa Ibom people on the need to imbibe the “Rise to Greatness” philosophy of Governor Udom Emmanuel towards attaining self development and self actualisation.
The permanent secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Akparawa James Edet, gave the charge Friday at Camberwell, London, during a dinner organised for Akwa Ibom State Government contingent to the London School of Public Relations (LSPR) at Cannan, Exquisite African Delicacies owned by a Nigerian, Mrs Mfon Bassey Edem.
Edet, who said the exploits of the Akwa Ibom-born UK councillor was in line with the “Greatness” spirit of every Akwa Ibom child, congratulated Princess Peace Priscilla Essien on this political rise in the overseas country and urged her, as a good Ambassador of Akwa Ibom State and indeed Nigeria, to look out for ways of replicating her prowess in numerous other young Akwa Ibom people.
He said the UK councillor was a pride of Nigeria and Akwa Ibom as well as a symbol of the “Dakkada spirit” and commended her for furthering the aspirations of Akwa Ibom youths being a committed member of the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI), herself, Akparawa-anwan Princess Emem Essien.
Speaking, the hostess, Princess Peace Priscilla Essien, had saidit would be a disservice on her part not to receive the permanent secretary and other members of the Akwa Ibom contingent while in her domain in the United Kingdom and commended the contingent for branding the state and particularly the Ministry of Information and Strategy effectively throughout their stay in the United Kingdom.
Essien expressed appreciation to the Akwa Ibom State Government for the sponsorship given to the contingent to attend the short course and appreciated the commissioner for information and strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, for all the training programmes he has opened up for staff of the Ministry as well as other initiatives introduced in the Ministry.
The director of Public Relations, Mrs Grace Akpan, expressed deep appreciation to the United Kingdom councillor, PrincessEssien, for the memorable reception given to the contingent, especially in making them enjoy Akwa Ibom delicacies like ekpang nkukwò, edikang ikòng and afang soup in far away London.
Akpan further thanked other Akwa Ibomites in the Diaspora, particularly Akan Nkweini and Udeme Samuel Udo, for joining the councillor in hosting the team and also the Akwa Ibom contingent for honouring the invitation.
It was gathered that the caterer, Mrs Mfon Bassey Edem, has lived in the United Kingdom for 30 years and has served in her Cannan Exquisite African Delicacies restaurant for 15 years.
