CALABAR

The Rivers State governor has expressed confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the February 26 by-elections for the Ogoja- Yala Federal Constituency and Akpabuyo State Constituency in Cross River State.

Mr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike stated this in Calabar during the weekend while presenting the party’s flag bearers to a crowd of PDP faithfuls during the flag off of campaign for the by-elections in the state.

Mr Nyesom Wike, who advised the teaming supporters to defy every form of intimidation before, during and after the elections, urged them to vote massively for the PDP candidates and to protect their votes.

While condemning attempts by security personnel to barricade the venue for the PDP rally, at the Calabar Sports Club, the governor described the act as inimical to democratic practice.

He said his visit to the state was to show solidarity and support to party members, who he noted had been intimidated and persecuted by APC government.

He said the party leadership is totally committed to delivering in the by-election just as they did in the just concluded FCT election.

Earlier in a welcome remark, the state chairman of the party, Mr Venatius lkem, said the party was fully prepared for the by-elections in the state.

He further urged the party faithfuls to remain peaceful and be focused on reclaiming the state to PDP in the 2023 general elections.

The rally was attended by some national, zonal and state leaders including the National Women’s Leader, Professor Stella Atoe, former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, National and State Assembly members and a large number of PDP governorship aspirants in the state
