As Akwa Ibom people continue in the countdown to the 2023 governorship election, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Umo Eno, has stated that rural development is a major component of his economic blueprint titled: “ARISE Agenda.”
Speaking at the official adoption of PDP candidates by a political group called 5 Over 5 Initiative, he noted that when elected, his administration plans to pay great attention to rural areas by renovating, reactivating and building primary healthcare centres across the 329 political wards in the state, and other areas of need.
He disclosed plans to institute a free health care scheme for the elderly to further the health policies of the current administration.
Pastor Eno, who was the chairman of Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Board during the Obong Victor Attah-led administration, recalled that his first political appointment was by a son of the area, adding that he would remain eternally grateful to Obong Attah and by extension Ibesikpo Asutan.
The immediate-past commissioner for lands and water resources maintained that the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration has made huge investments in the health sector, especially in secondary health care, stressing that the focus of the next administration would be to further the strides.
He promised to run an all-inclusive government, listen to the elders, seek counsel from the traditional fathers, and listen to youths, women and all stakeholders for the development of the state.
Empathetic with the retirees, especially those that are yet to receive their gratuities, Pastor Umo Eno described retirement benefits as entitlements/rights/privileges that accrue to a worker/employee upon leaving the services of an employer for the reason of having worked or provided service to the employer. He promised to prioritize such benefits which could be paid monthly until the backlogs are cleared.
“We’ll ensure that funds are set aside and secure by the government every month for the payment of gratuity to our retirees,” he promised.
The seasoned entrepreneur emphasized that his administration would adopt the international development approach by partnering communities and creating agricultural and ICT hubs for their development.
He commended the group for the initiative and endorsement of PDP candidates, assuring them that he would not betray their trust and mandate.
Earlier in his remark, the commissioner for finance, Dr. Nsikan Linus Nkan, said Pastor Umo Eno had the capacity for further development in the state and has successfully managed his private business for many years.
He stressed that the people of Ibesikpo Asutan were comfortable and happy with the choice of Eno as the candidate of the PDP and the next governor of the state.
In their separate remarks, the member representing IbesikpoAsutan State Constituency, Mr Aniekan Uko; chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Mrs Akon Michael; and the paramount ruler, Edidem III, Clement F. Ekpenyong; noted that Pastor Eno has demonstrated capacity, competence and character, hence the entire Akwa Ibom people are queuing behind his candidacy for the 2023 elections.
The colourful ceremony held in the council hall of the area attracted the political class, traditional rulers, clergies, women and youths.
Also, the political aspirations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearers for the presidency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar;Pastor Umo Eno for governorship; Aniekan Bassey for the Senate; Uyo Federal Constituency, Mark Esset; and Mr Ubong Attah; received a massive boost as a renowned grassroots mobilization group codenamed 5 Over 5 Initiative adopted all the candidates of PDP for the forthcoming 2023 elections.
The epoch-making event which was hosted at the Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Council Hall, Nung Udoe, had in attendance the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Umo Eno; representative of PDP candidate for Uyo Senatorial District, MrAniekan Bassey; PDP candidate for Uyo Federal Constituency, Mark Esset; and the candidate for Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Pastor Ubong Attah.
Setting the tone for the event, the international president of 5 Over 5, Etubom David Jackson, while welcoming the PDP candidates and the guests thanked them for honouring the invitation of the group.
He disclosed that the main objective of the initiative was to galvanize massive support for all the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the entire state.
Jackson unveiled the group, noting that they have traversed all the nooks and crannies of the state with the message of enlightenment for all the voters on the need to jettison selective voting and rather vote all the candidates of PDP in the forthcoming elections.
Also responding, the PDP flag-bearer for Uyo Federal Constituency, Mark Esset, thanked the entire people of Ibesikpo Asutan for their enormous support so far.
“I stand here to reaffirm that with the confidence you have reposed on me I will not disappoint you. The voice of Uyo, Uruan, Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai will be heard very loud in the National Assembly through me”.
Esset urged all the electorate to embrace the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and support all the candidates of the party across the entire state.
