Obaseki Commends Edo Police Commissioner For Successful Policing As He Retires

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki says the state government’s efforts in providing logistics to the police led to a peaceful and crime-free 2021 yuletide in the state.

 The governor made this known in Benin City when he spoke at a parade organised in honour of the outgoing commissioner of police, Mr Philip Ogbadu, in Benin City.

 Obaseki, represented by the chief of staff, Hon Osaigbovo Iyoha, said “since you came to Benin, our administration has not had it this good during the yuletide in the state.

 “We will continue to support the police in Edo State. We will sure miss you.

 “You are always the best in the field, gallant, focused and pragmatic. We celebrate you and facilitate with the entire Nigeria Police Force, Edo State command. We wish you well,” he said.

 In his speech, the outgoing commissioner of police, Edo State, Philip Ogbadu, said, “It is the prayer of every serving officer to retire in active service.

 “I thank the good people of Edo State. If I had come to Edo State earlier than I did I probably would have had a long run away.

 “I want to thank the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki,for being humane. Also, I want to appreciate the royal fathers, especially the Oba of Benin. I thank my management staff, the Christian and Muslim leaders, the police rank and files who behaved themselves throughout my stay here as commissioner of police.

 “Truly, Edo State is a good place to work. The people are accommodating,” he said.

 In his good will message, the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations, DCP Miller Dantawaiye, said, “you came when it was tough, you did all you could do, and peace was restored, you tormented the criminals, today all is calm to the glory of God.

 “I remember how you told me we need to restore the night life in the state. You truly succeeded in it. So, don’t think you have fully retired, just consider yourself a consultant because we will still be bugging you with phone calls when the need arises,” he said.

 Highlight of the parade was a special parade drill by the men of the Mobile Police Force, Base5.

 The outgoing commissioner of police in Edo State, Philip Ogbadu, was later sent off with a well decorated Range River Vehicle. 

Mr Philip Ogbadu retired from the police force after he attained the mandatory age of 60 as he was born on March 7, 1962.
