To address the spread of HIV/AIDS in the society, the South South Zonal office of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has inaugurated a crop of journalists to help in the areas of enlightening the public about HIV/AIDS related diseases.
Inaugurating the advocacy committee in Benin city, the South South coordinator of NACA, Dr Uduak Daniel urged the team to assiduously work towards ensuring that the purpose for setting the advocacy committee was actualized
She pointed out that when members of the public were being notify of the disease HIV/AIDS its prevention and how to live with it when affected
Daniel stressed that the committee was expected to create awareness for attitudinal change among the public as it relates to the disease
In his lecture, coordinator, Edo State Agency for the Control of AIDS,(EDOSACA), Mr Ogula Amidu, stated that the south south state of Nigeria, have the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS with Edo State 1.9 per cent currently.
He urged the team to do their best in disseminating information on the subject matter, which he believes, will go a long way to cub further spread that will reduce it to the barest minimum
According to him, “with the coming on board of journalists for spreading the information on HIV prevention and its control,there was hope that the situation will be brought under control.”
The media personnel who were inaugurated for the job as HIV Response Advocacy Committee were both from the print and electronic media houses
