Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), a socio -political group, has inaugurated its Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter Steering Committee with its determination to promote its established philosophy with a sense of commitment and total loyalty.
The event which took place recently at Akwa Ibom House in the Central Business District, Abuja, has Mr. Usenekong Akpanas chapter coordinator; Mr. Emmanuel Inyang, deputy coordinator; and Mr. Kingsley Iwok as secretary.
Others are Clement Clement-assistant secretary, Stanley Eteka-organizing secretary, Nkoyo Essien -welfare secretary, Lady NseAbasi Akpan -publicity secretary, Imofindworld -assistant publicity secretary, Josephine Odungide-women leader I, Joy Fan- women leader II, Francis Ibah- treasurer, Edet Adams-financial secretary and Mrs Maria Oruk, auditor.
Also on the list include: Inima Moses-provost, OtuekongFrancis -director of protocol/social, Ezekiel Akpan- Director of Contact and Mobilization, Tommy Udoime, Director of Planning /strategy, Ekerette Nathan-youth leader I, Uko Frank -youth leader II, Cyril Etuk- director of public affairs andOfonime Eno as the legal adviser.
MPM – FCT Chapter Steering Committee also has its advisers representing their respective local government areas of the state in the territory. They include: Aniefon Akpabio- Etinan, IsikongIsong, Esq, Urue Offong/Oruko, Richard Okposin – Eket, Gabriel Fan Esq, Eket, Mrs. Persis Moses- Oruk Anam, Lady Jane Inyang-Ikot Ekpene, Solomon Umana- Etinan, BasseyUko- Nsit Ubium and Uduak Itiam- Obot Akara.
Others are Obong John Umoren -Ini, Mfoniso Ibanga- EtimEkpo, Amb. Okon Nkpafit -Ikono, Simeon Imo -Ukanafun, Bassey Amah -Okobo, Sir Sunday Amba – Urue Offong/Oruko, Imaobong Abia –Esit Eket, Ubong Emmanuel -Ibesikpo Asutan, Victor Edemidiong -Nsit Atai, Emem Udo- Uruan, NdifrekeJoshua-Ika, Blessing Charles Mbong -Eastern Obolo, Emmanuel Eteta-Ita – Ibeno, Paul Udoh — Onna Local Government Area.
Inaugurating the committee, the national chairman of Maintain Peace Movement, Emmanuel Enoidem, urged members to embrace the ideals of the movement by ensuring that the peace currently enjoyed in the state is sustained.
The MPM national chairman commended the efforts of Governor Udom Emmanuel for the infrastructural and industrialdevelopment in the state, especially in the aviation industry, as demonstrated in the establishment and professional administration of Ibom Air and other projects in the state.
According to him, the only way these dividends of democracy can be sustained is for Akwa Ibom people at home and in diaspora to maintain peace and support the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn in executive officers, the FCT chapter coordinator, Mr. Usenekong Akpan, in his inaugural address expressed gratitude to God for the honour and privilege given to him to coordinate and superintend the FCT Chapter of MPM.
Akpan said, “I appreciate our grandpatron, Governor UdomEmmanuel, for his vision to establish the FCT Chapter of this movement to galvanize the huge support-base of Akwa Ibom State indigenes resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the 19 northern states of the country towards maintaining and sustaining peace in our dear state.
He acknowledged with appreciation the role the leadership of the national executive committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem in the emergence of the FCT Chapter and its eventual inauguration.
Akpan assured the people that his committee was capable and well able to translate the vision of Governor Emmanuel’s maintain peace into a reality.
The FCT coordinator said, “by coming together, it is expressly clear that we have embraced the MPM philosophy with awesome joy and we are set to carry into our future this precious light of peace with common belief, purpose, passion, dedication and enthusiasm.”
He said, “We will not rest on our oars until this message of peace gets to the innermost parts of the geographical space called Nigeria. In our determination to achieve this, we have fashioned a strategic approach through our work plan which we believe is pertinent to actualize the vision.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Abuja liaison officer, AkwaIbom State, Mr. Edwin James, expressed appreciation to God Almighty for making the event a success.
Mr. James who was represented at the event by the special assistant to Akwa Ibom governor on grassroots mobilization in Abuja and 19 northern states, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang, said he felt proud to see that Akwa Ibom indigenes even in the Diaspora also share the sentiment of Governor Emmanuel in building a peaceful and united state where development and investment could thrive.
According to him, the presence of peace is the absence of conflicts and I am convinced that the about to be inaugurated steering committee of the Maintain Peace Movement, FCT Chapter, will live up to expectations and show maximum commitment and loyalty to the vision and the sequence plans of the governor.
The liaison officer said, “As you all know, the Federal Capital Territory is the epicentre of national and sub-national players with varied economic and political interest. You need to create more energy and initiative towards achieving the goals and aspirations of this great movement. I commend the wisdom of the Maintain Peace Movement leadership for inaugurating the FCT Chapter today.” Edwin James added.
In his remark, director of planning and strategy, Elder Tommy Udoime, expressed thanks to God for making the event a success and urged the people of the state to continue living in peace with one another, saying without peace, it is impossible for development to thrive.
“The occasion was marvelous because I was not expecting that I will have the kind of crowd that graced the occasion today. I give God the glory and commend Akwa Ibom people in FCT for just, by a short notice, they were able to honour the invitation for the sake of peace.
He said, “We should preach peace, live together peacefully with one another, we should try to always be peaceful with ourselves for without peace we cannot have good governance. Akwa Ibom people at home and in the diaspora should continue to live in peace.”
Speaking with Midweek Pioneer shortly after the ceremony, secretary of MPM, FCT Chapter Steering Committee, Mr. Kingsley Iwok, described the ceremony as very successful and amazing.
While giving the insight of MPM, the Etinan-born politician urged the people of the state to continue in peace irrespective of ethnicity, religion, party affiliation and many more.
On the relationship between the group and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iwok said, “the concept of Maintain Peace Movement as a group is born based on the fact that there must be peace because Governor Udom Emmanuel who is the originator of the movement has been saying that MPM is apolitical, non-partisan and it is all-inclusive to everyone in the state and beyond.
He stated, “When the peace is maintained through the platform of MPM, that is when we will start talking about party, but the major concern now is all about peace, not politics.”
He explained, “When there is absence of peace, injustice and strive, there is criminality, insecurity and all manner of social vices which is inimical to the life an existence of human being. Hence, there is need for every Akwa Ibom indigene in FCT and beyond to come together and embrace peace and work in peace.”
The inauguration MPM -FCT Chapter was eventually graced by many dignitaries, among whom, the visioner, Governor Udom Emmanuel represented by the national coordinator of MPM, Emmanuel Enoidem, who inaugurated the committee;National Assembly member representing Etinan Federal Constituency, Onofiok Akpan Luke, Esq; former PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP) state chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo.
Others were Comrade Ini Ememobong, the national publicity secretary and commissioner for information and strategy; Abuja liaison officer, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Edwin James, represented by the special assistant to Akwa Ibom governor on grassroots mobilization in Abuja and 19 northern states, Mr. EmmanuelInyang; president of Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, AniefiokIbah, and his cabinet members, chiefs, the clergies, women, youth and student bodies as well as all other guests from FCT and those who came all the way from the 19 northern states and Akwa Ibom State.
