ESSIEN UDIM
Felicitations have continued to trail the appointment of Camillus Essien Umoh into the State Executive Council as commissioner for trade and investments. The latest is from youths of Ekpenyong Atai No. 1 in Essien Udim Local Government Area, under the aegis of Ekpenyong Atai Ward 1 Youth Movement (EYM).
In a message addressed to the commissioner jointly signed by the group’s president, Mr. Inibehe Philip Udowo and secretary, Mr. Jude Linus Ottong, the youths congratulated Mr. Umoh on his appointment, describing it as well deserved and a collective honour to the people of Ekpenyong Ward 1 in particular and Essien Udim Local Government Area in general.
The message which further viewed the nomination as unprecedented, lamented the marginalization of Ekpenyong Ward 1 over the years in terms of either appointive or elective positions, since the creation of the local government area by successive administrations and paid glowing tributes to the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for rescuing the ward from the inglorious trend.
The youths were optimistic that the appointment would open a new narrative for the community, as they hoped that subsequent administrations of the state would queue behind Governor Emmanuel to further promote the cause and advancement of Ekpenyong Ward 1.
They sued for all hands to be on deck to encourage their son to succeed and, above all, leave no stone unturned towards galvanizing support for the completion agenda cum succession plan of the present administration of the state, ahead of 2023.
“We wish our son, Camillus Umoh, an all-round success throughout his stewardship even as we remain confident that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear, spanning over two decades from the oil industry with a view to realizing excellence in his new job,” the message read in part.
Umoh holds a Bachelor of Engineering, B.Eng (Civil) from the University of Benin, Edo State and had worked with Shell Petroleum Development Company for over 24 years, before bowing out voluntarily to pursue his private concerns.
He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Port Harcourt Business School and had earlier graduated from both primary and secondary schools with distinction.
He has a plethora of awards to his credit, among which are: Best Student, Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene – (1979); Chevron National University Scholarship – (1982-1984); Shell executive vice President, EVP/A prize for Development of Indigenous Dredging Capability – (2008); Shell CEO’s HSSE & SP Award for SPDC Contractor Financing Support – (2014); to mention but a few. He is married with children, while his hobbies include being passionate about community development as well as mentorship of the younger generation.
