The Tenders Board of the Ministry of Science and Technology has been inaugurated.

The acting secretary of Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Uyo, Mr Edem Bassey, while inaugurating the board charged members of the board to exercise due diligence in financial management in compliance to the circular establishing the board.

He said the board has been established in so many ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government with a view to ensuring accountability and prudence in the management of public funds.

Bassey explained that by the provisions of the circular, the threshold of approval for an accounting officer is N3 million, beyond N3M to N50 million goes to the Tenders Board of an MDA while approval beyond N50 million goes to the State Tenders Board.

The Tenders Board which is made up of nine members, has the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs Grace Jim as chairman, the head of PRS, Mrs Emem Umoette as secretary while other directors and  heads of directorate are members.

The permanent secretary, Jim thanked God, for making the inauguration of the board possible.

She also thanked the representative of Bureau of Public Procurement for coming to perform the inauguration, and the management staff for their cooperation.

Jim promised that the  board would abide by the instructions contained in the circular in the discharge of it’s functions.
