As the 2023 election year draws near, the Member Representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency, Hon. Mfon Idung consults Party delegates comprising of all the Chapter and Ward Executives in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
During the consultation, the lawmaker declared that as part of political rudiments and culture, he needed to consult with the party to solicit their prayers and support for the second phase of his representation.
Hon. Idung laid emphasis on the fact that his second term aspiration stems from his conviction to clinch an advantaged position in the House, become a Principal officer and as well become better positioned to attract more political dividends and prosperity back home.
He posited that, “it is apparently difficult to make any visible impact as a first timer in the House, because you have to learn the rope of lawmaking and then follow through. When you go back the second time, there is obviously every opportunity of becoming a principal officer in the House, putting you in an advantaged position to be able to touch more lives, invariably making more impacts”.
“truth is that, If I go back for a second term, I would become well able to affect more lives than I am able to do now, because of the benefits that are accrueable to a higher office. That is how the House of Assembly works”. Hon. Idung maintained.
The Chairman House Committee on Petroleum Resources highlighted his performances in the House, especially his ability to lend strong voice on matters of urgent public importance as his strong point towards seeking for a second term.
He availed the delegates of his outstanding performances to include his motion calling on government to expedite action in mobilizing contractors back to site to complete the abandoned Ikot Osukpong – Urua Inyang – Ikot Udo Road in Ika Local Government Area, which is now in an advanced stage of completion. He equally informed delegates of his concerted efforts at sponsoring live touching Bills and Motions on the floor of the House, geared towards fostering a shift in paradigm as it regards effective representation.
The lawmaker intimated delegates of his readiness to empower the youths, build people, put smiles on the faces of people, develop people who would in turn develop other people, adding that development suffices in chain and his development programmes are people – oriented.
Responding on behalf of the Party, Etim Ekpo PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon. Aniekan Dan appreciated the Lawmaker for the respect and recognition accorded the party. He commended the lawmaker for bringing sauce into the business of lawmaking, reminding that “politics in Etim Ekpo and Ika has taken its rightful shape given the pragmatic representative style of the Assemblyman. We are now closer to government more than it has ever been courtesy of Hon. Idung who has taken grassroots mobilization to an entirely new pedestal”.
Etim Ekpo PDP Chairman assured the lawmaker of the unreserved support of the party for his second term bid.
Speaking on behalf of the Ward Chairmen, the Chair of Chair, Evang. Ubong Nkanang expressed delight for having a man who has the party at heart represent the people. He added that “we have never had it this good in the past”. Hon. Idung’s representation is a complete departure from what we use to have in the past. The Chair of Chair assured the lawmaker of their overwhelming support for his second term aspiration.
“We cannot fold our arms and look at our House Member walk alone, because he has given the women of Etim Ekpo their pride of place in politics. We would stand by him, rally support for him, encourage him and pray for him to go back for a second term”. Mrs. Choice Lazarus, Chapter Women Leader speaking on behalf of the women.
In the same vein, the youths also pledged their support for the lawmaker stating that he is a youth – friendly Assemblyman. Speaking on behalf of the youths, Hon. Joe Jim described Hon. Idung as a man who is at all times sensitive to the plights of the youths.
The consultation train moved to consult Ika delegates.
