Power packed annual Inter House Sports Competition organized by Secondary Commercial School, Ibekwe in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area has been rounded off with OKOKO’S house emerging the overall inner after scoring 650 points to beat UDOMA’S house with 618 points, and AKPANOWO house with 486 points respectively.
In the week long competition, UWAUNIO’S house scored 441 for the fourth position, MENYENE’S house pulled 420 points for fifth position while UDOKPO’S house had 365 points for sixth position.
Those selected as the best Athletes were Blessing Udo Johnson and Alice Udoma for the female category while that of the males were Micheal Micheal, Wisdom and Henry respectively.
In the beauty pageant that followed, Green house was placed first, Blue house second while Yellow took third and Purple/Red were placed at fourth position.
In match pass White house took the lead seconded by Red house, Yellow house third, Blue house – fourth, Green house – fifth while Purple house was in the sixth position.
In invitation relay (4×100), Government Primary School Ikot Etetuk took first in the girls category while Salvation Army Primary School took second and Saint Georges African Primary School took third. The boys section had salvation taking the lead, Saint Georges second and Government Primary School – third.
At the Secondary School level, ALSCON Staff Secondary School was placed first, followed with the Community Secondary Commercial School Odoro Atan, and Alexma Secondary School – third while the girls had Odoro Atan – first, Alexma – Second and Janet International School – third.
In his speech earlier, the Chairman on the occasion Mr. Okpo E. Udoudo, said that talented sports men/women should not be discouraged or disturbed, rather they should be properly drilled encouraged and monitored.
Saying that sports was needed for discipline and academic brilliance, the former goal tender in his haydays for Ukpum Ette Secondary School thanked the principal and staff of the school for organizing the meet, adding that it will go a long way to raise the stamina, endurance and perseverance of e children.
The deputy village head of Ikot Abasi village said that since sports is the most popular form of exercise, students should not forget about their education which according to him is the greatest, and the only known instruments that the poor uses in drawing equal with the rich.
The senior prefect (boys) of the school Master Abasiubong Okon, commended the school management for organizing the meet which will give the students the opportunity -0 display their talents and believed that it will be a continuous event in t e school.
The principal general of the school Mr. George D. Uttah, described extra-curricular activities as essential ingredients of the overall education process.
He thanked all the participating houses for doing well and advised those who could not win laurels his time to put in their best in next competition.
The principal general use the occasion to thank the staff of the school and the P.T.A or making the meet worthwhile and prayed God to continue to bestow or them the understanding of sports, stressing that in his tenure he will not fail in celebrating sports annually.
Present at the event were, the former principal general of the school Mr. Cyril Umosen, the director of school in the area, Sir Emmanuel Ikpe Abasi, and the principal of Government Comprehensive School, Amadaka in Eastern Obolo LGA Mrs. Bassey Umana.
Highlights were presentation of certificates, and medals to the athletes.
