The Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has debunked the rumour that he has anointed a PDP aspirant from EsanSouth-East Constituency in the forthcoming Edo State House of Assembly election.
Governor Obaseki debunked the speculation in the presence of all the aspirants in a meeting held recently in government house, Benin City.
He further stressed that the leaders should try and streamline all the candidates to about three before the party primary coming up on May 18, 2022.
According to Governor Obaseki, I met with the 162 aspirants of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), urging them to deemphasize money politics and shun bitterness.
“I want to stay neutral in the build up to the coming primary election despite the several calls I have received. Every aspirant is my own; the PDP is one and my goal is that the PDP must win at all levels – the State and National Assemblies, and the Presidency.”
It was gathered that the aspirants are all happy over the meeting with the Governor of Edo State.
One of the aspirant who refused to disclose his identity said, “Our delegates are wiser that these cheap blackmail to deny them of their free will to choose their candidates without intimidation and bellicosity.”
Until very recently, a certain House of Assembly candidate has been rumoured to have been anointed by the governor and that all other aspiring candidates should step down for him.
The candidate who was rumoured to have bought certain prominent leaders with huge amount of money to help him win the primary election also went about declaring himself “the choose one” even before the party primaries.
This has basically put to rest every speculation that the governor has an anointed candidate.
