The commissioner for health has called on medical doctors in specialised fields to fill up available vacancies in the state.
Professor Augustine Vincent Umoh made the call when the state president of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Akwa Ibom branch, led her executive on a courtesy call on the commissioner recently.
Umoh held that Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, driven by the determination to provide quality health services to Akwa Ibom people at minimal cost, had embarked on the massive renovation, remodeling and equipment of secondary hospitals in the state the those facilities are in dire need of specialisedmanpower to actualise his vision in the health sector.
He enjoined the medical women to encourage their colleges to consider job opportunities in the state as he stressed that the state government would boost facilities for practice.
The commissioner made particular mention of the upcoming teaching hospital of the Akwa Ibom State University which he encouraged doctors who were specialists in core areas to be a part of the setting up of the hospital.
The health boss who commended the Akwa Ibom State chapter of MWAN for their demonstration of concern in women’s health,also charged them to develop strategies to accommodate the men.
He assured them of the willingness of the ministry to partner them to promote the wellbeing of Akwa Ibom people.
Speaking, the state president of the association, Dr EkaetteMbatt, appreciated the commissioner for always opening his doors to the body.
She said that the association remained poised to expanding the role of women in the achievement and maintenance of health throughout the state.
Mbatt listed some of their achievements to include creating awareness on cancer prevention and carrying out free cancer screening for thousands of women, provision of HPV vaccine for prevention of cervical cancer, offering Family Planning/Long Acting Reversible Contraception. She explained that to further improve their services, there was need for the association to pursue capacity building for its members through active participation in international conferences and workshops and solicited the support of the ministry to achieve the goal.
The MWAN, Akwa Ibom Chapter, also presented a certificate of recognition to the commissioner for his outstanding support to the female medical doctors in the state
