The Political Leader of Eket Senatorial District, Hon. Nduese Essien has adopted Pastor Umo Eno as the sole candidate for the 2023 Governorship race.
The elder statesman and former Minister Lands, Housing and Urban Development, said the decision was taken with agreement with other stakeholders in the area and charged other zones and local government areas to do same in the interest of Akwa Ibom State and for peaceful elections in the state.
Chief Nduese noted that other aspirants had consulted him and he advised them but he has received and endorsed Umo Eno’s aspiration because of his capacity and of the fact that Umo Eno has contributed immensely to the socio-economic and human capital development of Eket. “Pastor Umo Eno is my son and the closest person to us in Eket.”
He urged the aspirant to count himself lucky to be endorsed by the governor and charged him to work-hard to reciprocate the gesture by completing all ongoing projects in Eket and also maintain them, urging him to market himself to the people to win their endorsement and acceptability.
Chief Essien also implored Pastor Eno to sustain and build on the legacies of previous administrations in the state and ensure that the peace in the state is sustained. While tasking the aspirant to introduce a social reorientation campaign in the state when voted into office to discourage what he described as alien culture in the state and beggarly attitude among the people which was introduced in the state in the name of development, and charged him to ensure judicious management of the state resources to avoid wastage.
He further urged him to champion the return to the culture of decency, dignity, respect and self esteem which Akwa Ibom person is known for.
Hear him, “If you can reduce wearing of uniform in every occasion in the state by men/women, children and youths. Those who printed those uniforms are not doing it for the benefit of the state but for their selfish interest. You are a successful businessman, I know that you’ll bring your wealth of experience to bear in the running of the state when elected into office in 2023”.
In his remarks, the Council Chairman of Eket Local Government, Hon Akan Tommy collaborated the Senatorial District leader’s position on adoption of Pastor Umo Eno as the choice of Eket people.
The Chairman who called on his people to support Pastor Umo Eno noted that the aspirant has what it takes to win election in 2023 and also deliver dividends of democracy to the people in the grassroot.
Also speaking, Governorship hopeful, Pastor Umo Eno said the visit was to intimate the former leader about his aspiration to contest for the governorship position, and assured him that Eket people will benefit from his administration if voted into power in 2023, noting that he is a son and inlaw of Eket.
Pastor Eno stated that he started his investment in Eket since 1995 after his return from Lagos and has lived and invested in Eket over the years, promising to create jobs, wealth and prosperity in the state so that the teeming unemployed youths in the state will be engaged through agriculture and tourism development.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Frank Archibong noted that the endorsement of Pastor Umo Eno is a “direct confirmation of God’s love for Eket People”, noting that Pastor Umo Eno is the only aspirant that has the interest of Eket people and commended him for investing in Eket and contributing to the socio-economic development of the area.
The Commissioner announced that Pastor Umo Eno is the direction they were waiting for the top job of the state as he has been endorsed by Governor Udom Emmanuel as his preferred aspirant to succeed him. He charged the people to key in and support Governor Emmanuel’s succession plan and Umo Eno’s aspiration to emerge as Governor in 2023.
Earlier, the Director General, Umo Eno Campaign Team, Amb. Assam Assam while presenting the aspirant to the former House of Representatives member told him that Pastor Umo Eno is God’s gift to Akwa Ibom and therefore should be accepted as the will of God by all and solicited support for Pastor Umo Eno’s ambition, stressing that Umo Eno is an Eket son who has lived and done business in Eket thus contributing to the socioeconomic growth and development of the city.
