The head of Civil Service of Akwa Ibom has said the state government, led by Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, is working hard to ensure food sufficiency in the state.

Elder Effiong Essien stated this when the managing director/chief executive officer  of Ibom FADAMA Microfinance Bank, Mrs. Imaobong Etuk, accompanied by the head of Credit and Marketing,  Mr. Bassey Essien, visited him in his office in Uyo.

Essien emphasized that farming is the only additional occupation civil servants are constitutionally allowed to engaged in outside official hours.

He explained that through the state Ministry of Agriculture, the government recently distributed farm inputs, including yam seedlings, to farmers, including civil servants, as incentives and expressed the hope that with this support, food production would be boosted.

The head of Civil Service commended FADAMA Microfinance Bank for commencing banking activities in the state, noting that their credit facilities to farmers and other traders will complement government efforts.

Essien congratulated the MD/CEO, Mrs. Imaobong Etuk, on her appointment and charged her to effectively publicize the products offered by the bank to enable the people take advantage of its credit facilities.

Etuk said the visit was to inform the head of civil service of the commencement of banking services in the state by FADAMA Microfinance Bank and to also explore possible ways of collaboration with his office.

She appreciated the head of civil service for the audience.
