As the countdown to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary continues, the chairman, Ibom Power Company Limited, has said that the completion and succession programme of the state government were on track, assuring that the Maintain Peace Movement was working according to plan
Mr Etido Inyang who is a member of the research and documentation arm of the movement also disclosed that the preferred successor to the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has given a good account of himself as the right choice for the party’s leadership and stakeholders in the 2023 governorship race.
The former commissioner for special duties who stated this in a chat with newsmen recently in Uyo, said that having listened to the aspirant during his consultation with stakeholders; he was convinced that Pastor Umo Eno will make the best governor when elected in 2023.
He described the frontline aspirant as an “embodiment of ideas” who is endowed with the wealth of experience to transform Akwa Ibom and restore the enterprising spirit of the people.
The Ibom Power Company boss lauded the aspirant for bringing to perspective his dreams and aspirations for Akwa Ibom and also proffering solutions to unemployment which is one of the major challenges bedeviling the state and the country in general.
“At Ikot Ekpene, he has promised to make the place a business hub and also transform the raffia city.
“He also promised to take the youth off the street through small and medium scale enterprises and skills acquisition programmes,” he remarked.
While maintaining that Pastor Umo Eno has demonstrated capacity and competence as former commissioner for lands and water resources, a ministry he has brought various innovations to bear within the few months in the saddle of administration, Mr Inyang expressed optimism that if given the opportunity as governor in 2023, Pastor Umo Eno will transform the state.
He commended the leadership of Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) for preparing the grounds for the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno as the preferred candidate and for also working hard to ensure the acceptability of the aspirant across all strata in Akwa Ibom State.
Inyang also commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the choice of Pastor Umo Eno as his preferred candidate, adding that he will consolidate on the gains of the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
In his words: “The MPM has done very well by clearing the path like John the Baptist for the announcement and acceptance of the preferred candidate.
“They started early and have put structures across the wards and local governments chapters in the state which has also contributed immensely to the general acceptability of Pastor Umo Eno. So, I can say that MPM has done remarkably well.
“For whatever other structure that will come for the same purpose, for me, I think the more the merrier as long as we are working towards the same goal. But the MPM has been the leader of the cause.”
Dismissing the insinuations of an alleged misunderstanding among other groups working for Pastor Umo Eno, Inyang said the emergence of other like-minded groups is for the advantage of the cause as there is no issue anywhere.
On the Power for All Initiative of the state government, the Ibom Power Company helmsman noted that the project is still on course as the state is working in conjunction with the Federal Government to get the necessary clearance to ensure the achievement of the project’s goals.
