Governor Emmanuel Urges Nkanga’s Education Foundation To Review Action

The Akwa Ibom government has urged the Nkanga Education Foundation to review its planned action on targeted beneficiaries to avoid duplication of functions.

The governor gave the advice at the posthumous birthday, education foundation launch and unveiling of the “Biography” of late Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga in Uyo.

Governor Emmanuel who was represented at the event by his wife Mrs Martha Emmanuel, said it was necessary for the foundation to review what the body would do for the targetedstudents since the Akwa Ibom government in it’s free and compulsory education, was paying the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the National Examination Council (NECO) fees for students in the state.

The governor explained that if the mandate of the foundation will include the payment of these examination fees, there would be a duplication of functions and called on the foundation to look beyond secondary school to ensure that the objectives of the body were genuinely achieved.

Mr Udom Inoyo of Inoyo Toro Foundation said that the foundation was a great idea and vision that sought to improve the quality and access to education in the state, adding that over years, the Inoyo Toro Foundation has been at the forefront of encouraging standard in building the capacity of teachers and students.

Inoyo commended the late Otuekong Nkanga for instituting the foundation, saying that since it was easy to set up an educated foundation than sustaining it, the Inoyo Toro Foundation will provide the needed guide and assistance to that allow the foundation to live up to its responsibility in the state.

The senator representing Uyo Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Obong Bassey Albert, appreciated the foundation for what it sought to achieve in addressing the educational challenges of expected beneficiaries in the state.

The chairman, Board of Trustee of Ritman International Schools and University, Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien, said the foundation was unique project that promote scholarship in the state and applauded the family of Otuekong Nkanga for coming up with the initiative.

The provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Daniel Udo, commended the initiative of the foundation saying that it would go a long way in addressing the educational challenges of Nsit Ibom students.

In his remarks, the wife of late Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, Mrs Fumi Nkanga, said the Posthumous 70th birthday of her late husband, was done with the main aim of providing a unique opportunity to present the book, “The Biography” being an quintessential thoughts of the life and times of Otuekong Nkanga.

She acknowledged the large turnout of people and personalities of guests at the event, a situation Fumi noted showed the love and respect they have for the late air force general and announced that the education foundation was a way of immortalizing her husband who had passion for the education of his people.

Highlights of the event, were the presentation of the book, title Biography, captures some of the legacies of late Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga.
