Gov Udom Emmanuel has said that the Federal University of Technology in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area would add value to the immediate benefit in Akwa Ibom and the nation at large.

Emmanuel stated this while playing host to a delegation of the university led by Senator Udoma Udoma at Government House, Uyo, Tuesday.

The governor saluted President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the new university for the state.

He also appreciated the contributions of the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) and other relevant educational regulatory institutions for working to actualise the project for the state.

The state chief executive officer assured of the support of his administration to the university in grooming graduates of various disciplines to enhance manpower and skills in the existing industrial growth of the state.

Emmanuel noted with delight the pedigree of the principal officers of the university and the doggedness of the facilitators, maintaining that it has become a part of the Akwa Ibom government in giving assistance to already existing Federal Government tertiary institutions in the state

“I want to reassure you that this isn’t the first federal university here, all the Federal tertiary institutions here derive a lot of support from us. Having a Federal University of Technology, I think we’re the immediate beneficiary, especially with the background of the vice chancellor,” he stressed.

The leader of the team, Senator Udoma Udoma, said President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the principal officers of the university to ensure a quick take-off of the institution.

Udoma noted that the university would collaborate with the Akwa Ibom government to ensure that the objectives of the university were achieved.

He was accompanied on the visit by the principal officers of the university – the vice chancellor, Professor Leo Daniel, the registrar, Offiong Nkang, the bursar, Mr Erasmus-Mbobo and the librarian, Professor Philip Akor.
