UYO

The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to partner with the Federal Fire Service, Zone E, Akwa Ibom State, to train officers of the command on fire prevention and safety.

Both agencies reached this conclusion, recently, when the newly- posted Commander of the Federal Fire Service, Assistant Controller General (ACG) Philip Abang Odu, paid a courtesy visit to the Uyo Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE) Bawa Hamidu Saidu, in his office in Uyo.

Welcoming Odu and his team to the command, Bawa noted that being safety conscious prevents a lot of mishaps and officers can only discharge their duties when they are alive and safe.

“Safety is very vital and it’s the duty of everyone to keep everybody safe. At least, we have to be safe to be able to discharge our duties or do anything at all,” he said.

Bawa urged the fire controller to deploy his officers to carry out a risk assessment of the commission’s office premises and train its personnel on fire prevention and safety.

He also charged him to always share intelligence on suspected crimes within the mandates of the commission,

Earlier, Odu explained the imperative of fire prevention as a trans-agency need, stressing that, “as far as safety is concerned, we can divert from our core mandates and assist each other. If you see someone trying to set somebody’s house ablaze, will you sit down and say my job borders on financial crimes and won’t alert us? So, we need to work hand in hand for the sake of Akwa Ibom State and our dear nation,” he said.
