IKOT EKPENE
Over 1,000 quality exercise books have been donated to the pupils of Methodist Primary School, Ikot Otu/Ndiya Etok in Ikot Ekpene Urban Clan in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area by the Ette Okon Development Foundation.
The donation sponsored by the family of late Ette Okon and supported by the Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, was in remembrance of their father who placed so much importance on the educational development of the pupils at the grassroots levels.
Led by a strong member of the foundation who is also a senior daughter of the deceased, Obonganwan Regina F. Asanga, the remembrance which comes up every January of the year, becomes imperative following the roles of their late father towards their education and contributions for the overall development of their community.
Obonqanwan Asanga who was with other siblings to include a onetime councilor in their ward. Mr. Raphael Etteokon, a lawyer, Idorenyin Etteokon, Benedicta, Francis, Mrs. Idongesit, among others, commended the school for doing well academically and believed the pupils will continue to live up to the billings of their parents and the state government by studying hard to produce good future leaders for the area and the state in general.
It could be recalled that the onetime councilor, Mr Raphael had earlier donated benches to the school in furtherance of education in the area.
Also speaking, the village head of Ikot Otu who is also the clanhead of Ikot Ekpene Urban, Obong Michael A. Udoidiong, commended the foundation for donating the exercise books to the pupils of the school to mark the remembrance of their late father and prayed God to bless the family.
Represented by Prince Uduak A. Offong, the clan head believed that the donation of the books will go a long way to boost the educational advancement of the children and charged them to reciprocate the gesture of the family by studying seriously to become future leaders of the village, clan and the state in general.
Prince Offong who is also a member of the school management board, appreciated the foundation for doing well and charged the children to take proper care of their books.
The head teacher of the school, Mrs. Idongesit Emmanuel, described the gesture of the foundation as noble and prayed God to continue to bestow on the foundation the spirit of developing the young ones.
Mrs. Emmanuel who was with other teachers to include deputy head teacher I and II, Mr. Etim Akpan and Mrs. Christiana Udo,among other teachers, called on the children to do well by studying hard to reciprocate the gesture of the foundation and score it high in contributing to the development of education in the area.
Present at the colourful event was the youth president of the village, Mr. Ekemini Etukudo, while highlight was the distribution of the exercise books to the pupils.
One of the pupils, Miss Atasifreke Udo, thanked the foundation for the donation and assured of doing well in their academic pursuits.
