Five persons including a driver, information officer, Journalist and personal aides to the commissioner for information and strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, recently had cause to smile when he personally presented them with titled documents of landed properties situated in a hot location in Uyo, citing outstanding performance as the reason for the gesture.
While making the surprise presentation on Thursday night in his office, the commissioner noted that the gesture was a further testament to the commitment of the beneficiaries towards their assigned duties, and indeed his resolve to continue to prioritise the welfare of staff.
Accordingly to Ememobong, “In recognition of your outstanding contributions, we have again decided to appreciate some of the people who are working with us, because we have the understanding that there is nothing that can replace staff motivation”.
The state spokesman said the gifts were part of the Udom Emmanuel Media Land Acquisition Scheme and in furtherance of the governor’s liberal disposition towards the Press community in the state.
On his part, the permanent secretary, Akparawa James Edet,pointed out that the gesture was aimed at encouraging professionalism, productivity and high commitment among staff in the Ministry.
Also speaking, the chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk,commended Ememobong for his numerous supports to the welfare of Journalists in the state, affirming that his strategic collaborations with the Union has strengthened the bond between journalists and his Ministry, as well as births new ideas, especially in the areas of human capacity development.
Meanwhile, a beneficiary, Comrade Iniabasi Umoh of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has expressed excitement over the gift, saying that it came to her as a surprise.
Umoh thanked the commissioner and prayed God to continue to bless him.
The other beneficiaries were his personal driver, Uko Brown; media assistant, Mmenim Blessing; photographer, Mbietabasi Etim and an information officer, Lawrence Ekong.
Recall that Ememobong had in mid last year, made similar offers to police officers covering duties in his office, a gesture he has sustained since his days as the publicity secretary of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Akwa Ibom State chapter.
