A non-governmental organization, the Edet Amana Foundation (EDAF).has awarded scholarship to 50 Nigerian undergraduate students studying in different tertiary institutions across the world.
At the 2022 EDAF scholarship award presentation ceremony, Sir. Amana explained that the intervention fund of N25 million cover students studying in different universities, polytechnics, secondary and primary school students, as well as the remuneration for four science teachers on teaching engagement at the Methodist Boys High School, Oron.
He said ninety-two students were currently under the foundation’s scholarship programme.
Represented at the event by Mrs Alice Esin called on the beneficiaries of the scholarship award to be more committed in their studies so that they could in return help others and become great ambassadors of humanity, representing EDAF in good deeds.
In his words, Amana said, “Today, we have gathered to unveil our new set of beneficiaries. 50 young Nigerians currently studying in various universities across the nation have been selected to join our league of EDAF scholarship beneficiaries –EDAF’s alumni. They are to receive a one-off scholarship allowance of eighty thousand (80,000) naira each to support their studies.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the task of community development cum nation- building requires a collective effort, as one person cannot do it alone. Therefore, we welcome you, the good-spirited individuals to join EDAF in kind or cash support to keep this passion and vision for humanity alive.
“I give Almighty God thanks and praise for bringing us all together to celebrate this day in the life of the Edet Amana Foundation. I thank Him, Our Father, for His grace which enabled the setting up of this foundation to give succour to the less-privileged in our communities”.
Presenting the cash donations to beneficiaries, the chairman onthe occasion, Elder Esang Bassey, advised the students to make judicious use of the cash donation in their educational pursuit for a rewarding future.
Others who spoke at the event were, the commissioner for education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebiet, represented by Dr. AnietieIkot; the paramount ruler of Urue Ofong/Oruku, HRM. EfiongUnanaowo, paramount ruler of Oron, HRM. Odiong Akan;Professor Valarie Solomon; president, Oron Students Union, Comrade Etim Etim.
High point of the event was the inauguration of EDAF Scholarship Programme/induction into EDAF alumni, award presentation.
Cultural presentation was by students from Mary HanneySecondary School, Oron and testimonies by beneficiaries.
