The Akwa Ibom State deputy governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, has urged the health sector in the state to reciprocate Governor Emmanuel’s huge investment in the sector by supporting the governor’s completion and succession agenda.

The deputy governor stated this recently during a courtesy call on him by the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, (NAGGMDP) at Government House, Uyo.

Ekpo stated that the investment made by Governor Emmanuel in the health and other key sectors was huge to inspire any well-meaning Akwa Ibom person and group to support his succession plan for the sustenance of good governance and tranquility in the state.

He urged them to mobilize their members, family and neighbourhood to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the health sector in the state to continue to thrive.

Stating the obvious about the General Hospital, Ikot Okoro, as fruitage of the excellent healthcare delivery system in the state, Mr. Ekpo stressed that the Akwa Ibom State health sector happens to be one of the best in the country with modern health facilities.

He commended medical practitioners for organizing the HEAL 4 Umo Eno Campaign, averring that any person who wishes the state well should support Governor Emmanuel’s general vision for the health sector in order to ensure that the citizenry remainsin good health.

As he assured them of government support for their programme, Ekpo restated the readiness of government to continue to offer assistance to projects aimed at promoting the state and overall wellbeing of the people. “We will support anything that will make the state grow higher,” he said.

The deputy governor noted that the theme of the organization’s AGM: Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme – The Game Changer, was apt and fitting and expressed the hope that the resource persons assigned the responsibility of dissecting the theme wouldl do justice to it.

The chairman of NAGGMDP, Dr. Enobong Akpan, paid glowing tributes to Governor Emmanuel for his giant strides in the health sector, acknowledging it as first-class and a model for the country.

“He has done what no other state government has done in the health sector, the chairman emphasized.

Akpan noted that the employment of 150 medical doctors at a single fell-swoop, the world-class facilities at the Ibom Multi Specialist Hospital and the massive infrastructural development in health facilities across the state have together ensured excellent healthcare delivery in the state.

He applauded Governor Emmanuel for the Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) Law, and commended the wife of the governor, Dr Martha Emmanuel, for her strong advocacy on issues of gender-based violence, noting that perpetrators of such crimes who got away unpunished in the past, have now been apprehended and brought to justice.

Akpan lauded the deputy governor for what he termed “a frontal and intentional support for the Nigeria Medical Association, describing him as the “father of NMA”.

He restated the resolve of members of NAGGMDP to continue in their support for the governor, adding that with HEAL 4 Umo Eno, the sector was already making a resounding statement of support for the Governor Emmanuel’s succession plan.

“We are unanimous, steadfast and united in ensuring that the succession plan of Governor Udom Emmanuel comes to fruition,” he stressed.
