C’River NUJ Commences Media Week, Convenes Town Hall For Gubernatorial Candidates

The Cross River Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) has scheduled a town hall meeting for governorship candidates of the various political parties in the state as part of events to mark its media week, which commences today.

 The media week, which is an annual event, would kick start with a city walk by members along major streets of the Calabar metropolis to create awareness. 

 State chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Nsa Gill, while briefing journalists in the state, recently, said the town hall meeting, tagged: “Meet the Press,” is also organised to propound a road map for the successful conduct of the 2023 general elections.   

 He unveiled the theme of the weeklong event to be “2023 general elections, the Nigeria Project and the media,” addingthat the town hall meeting was chosen and the theme selected to bring into focus the upcoming general elections.

 He also indicated that the event would provide the enabling environment for fertilization of ideas among politicians, security experts, captains of industries and media practitioners.

 The NUJ chairman outlined other events earmarked for the week to include medical outreach, entrepreneurship training and visit to veterans of the profession. 

 The chairman of the 2022 Cross River Media Week planning committee, Comrade Sam Nsor, in a statement, indicated that the keynote speaker at the event would be a legal luminary, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

 According to Nsor, a former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase and a retired Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini, would be guest lecturers.

 Nsor’s statement added that the Cross River governor, Professor Ben Ayade, would be the chief host with GovAbdulahi Umar Ganduje of Kano and that of Bauchi, Bala Muhammed, CON, in attendance as special guests of honour.

 The statement also pointed out that other dignitaries expected at the occasion are the former military governor of Lagos State and chairman/chief executive of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig. Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa rtd, Major Hamza Al Mustapha would be guest of honours.             

They will be in the state to grace the 2022 Cross River NUJ media summit and are also expected to unveil the proposed NUJ veteran plaza,” the statement further explained.
