The prelate and moderator of the Presbyterian Church Nigeria has prayed for Nigerian politicians and also encouraged Christians to aspire to higher political offices and lead with the fear of God.
His Eminence, Nzie Esi Eke, offered the prayers at the 25th General Assembly/176 anniversary of the church and launching of N120 million Presbyterian guesthouse held over the weekend at the Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar.
Eke, who thanked politicians for identifying with the church programme, charged them not to be disrespectful nor lead with impunity when they assume power but rather change the narratives.
He maintained that God will make a way for those who know him and identify with God’s work and programmes, explaining that in aspiring to political offices, they should not be, however, desperate for those positions.
Speaking later on the theme of the programme which was A Royal Priesthood, the clergyman, charged all believers to see themselves as priests of Christ and also advised Christian leaders to see their positions as divine arrangement and repent to earn God’s dignity.
According to him, all believers have access to God through Christ as royal priests and so should have a rich understanding of God with harmony in the homes and everywhere around them.
He urged those who have registered to use their PVCs well with votes for God-fearing people who have the interest of the people and nation at heart.
Highlights of the programme were the launching of the N120 million Presbyterian guesthouse projects, meritorious award of ‘Kingdom Builder’ to 56 persons including those in academia, business, traditional institutions as well as religious leaders.
Others included guest lecture by the vice chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Maduebibisi, prayer for the church, thanksgiving, among others.
