The Itu Mbonuso Clan Council of Chiefs has enlisted the cooperation of Akwa Ibom government in the opening of farm settlement at Mkpu Community to encourage youthsemployment and boost food sufficiency in the state.
The people, who rolled out the drums at the weekend for a grand reception of their daughter and commissioner for agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, on her appointment into the State Executive Council, were of high hope that a farm settlement on the large expanse of land they donated at Mkpu Community to the state government would provide employment opportunities for youths of the area.
The clan head of Itu Mbonuso, Obong Joshua Iseh, in a joint address of welcome with the secretary of the Clan Council, Chief Friday Udo Mkpa, appreciated Gov Udom Emmanuel for the honour done them in the appointment of their daughter as commissioner for agriculture, pledging their continued unalloyed loyalty to the success of the present administration in the state.
The traditional fathers, who were full of joy and happiness with Governor Emmanuel for making their daughter to become the first female commissioner from Itu Mbonuso Clan, pleaded with him to direct the rehabilitation of failed portions of the access road to the clan and the recognition of omitted Ikot Enim, IkotAma and Obot Oku villages together with the creation of ObotItu and Mbat Ese clans for them.
They said that the occasion, which attracted distinguished personalities, marked a turning point for the collective existence of Itu Mbonuso people where peace shall reign supreme for the good of the present and future generations.
The commissioner for agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, flanked by her husband, Samuel, the immediate past commissioner for agriculture, Dr Glory Edet and the vice chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Nyah Udo Inuaeyen, appreciated her kinsmen for the honour done her through the reception.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Emmanuel for the opportunity given her to serve in the State Executive Council as commissioner for agriculture.
Offor remarked that Ini people, wo are noted for increased food production in Akwa Ibom, should be ready and willing to cooperate with her in the successful implementation of the completion and succession agenda of Governor Emmanuel.
The commissioner advised the people, who have registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protect their voter cards for them to cast their votes for all candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), during the conduct of the general Election in 2023.
The immediate past commissioner for agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, noted with delight the grand reception ceremony by the ItuMbonuso traditional rulers, women and youths in honour of Offor whom she described as a high profile lady for appointment into the State Executive Council and appreciated Governor Emmanuel for ensuring her replacement in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Edet, who is a standard bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections to represent Ikono/IniFederal Constituency in the House of Representatives, pleaded with the entire Ini people to team up with Governor Emmanuel in the successful implementation of his completion and succession agenda.
The commissioner for health, Professor Augustine Umoh, saw the appointment of Offor as agric commissioner as well deserved, considering her useful contributions at the State Executive Council and solicited the cooperation of the ItuMbonuso people towards her success in office.
The vice chancellor, University of Uyo ( UNIUYO), Professor Nyah Udo Inuaeyen, noted with happiness that Offor’s humility and her intellectual capacity would help her to perform creditably as the commissioner for agriculture for the delight of the entire Ini people.
