IKOT EKPENE
The accountant general of Akwa Ibom, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, recently led management staff in his office on a condolence visit to the immediate past auditor general of the state, Dr. Monday Akpan, over the demise of his mother at his country home, Utu Ikot Ekpenyong, kilometer 3, Ikot Ekpene Road, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
Andrew-Essien, who described the late Elder Nwa Jacob Akpan, during the visit Thursday, as exemplification of virtue, said her life was characterized by virtue through diligent service to God and humanity.
He said the late matriarch laid a solid moral foundation for the upbringing of her children as evidenced in the life of Dr. Monday Akpan.
Andrew-Essien, who noted that though the demise of a dear one was a moment of grief, encouraged Dr. Akpan to take solace in the knowledge that her mother exceeded the biblical age of 80, therefore making her exit a celebration of life.
He advised the deceased children to strive to uphold the legacies left behind by their late mother and prayed God Almighty to grant him and the bereaved family the needed strength to bear her loss.
Andrew-Essien used the occasion to congratulate Akpan on a successful retirement, acknowledging the support of the immediate auditor general of the state to his office, saying he was “a true definition of a brother”.
Responding, Dr. Monday Akpan expressed gratitude to the accountant general and management staff of his office for identifying with him in his moment of grief.
Akpan said his late mother was a strict disciplinarian, who impacted and touched several lives in the community, loved and cared for her children passionately.
He recalled with pride the selfless sacrifices made by his late mother towards ensuring that her children were better off in life, saying though her departure was painful, she lived a life worthy of adulation.
“My mother was a devout Christian, committed and diligent in God’s service. I learnt how to fast from my late mother, I will sorely miss her motherly care and wise counsel”, he said.
He expressed gratitude to God for seeing him through the 14 years on the saddle as auditor general.
Akpan also lauded the team spirit and cooperation existing between the Office of the Accountant General and that of the Auditor General, describing Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien as a man of integrity and challenged accountants to keep the flag of their noble profession flying.
The remains of late Elder Nwa Jacob Akpan was interred on Saturday, February 5, 2022 after a funeral service by Methodist Church Nigeria, Utu Ikot Essien, Ubon Abasi Circuit, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
