A new executive has been elected to pilot the affairs of the Association of Mass Communication Students (AMASCOS) in the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura.
The new executive is headed by Alphonsus Gerald as the president while Stella Emmanuel, Nsikak Solomon and Unyime Udoaka are to serve as vice president, secretary-general, director of socials/welfare and director of information respectively.
Others in the executive are Ife Udeme as assistant secretary, Ubong Columba, treasurer, Emediong Ekong, provost; andUnyime Thompson, director of sports.
The election which was held recently, saw Alphonsus Gerald defeat his opponent, Anietie Essien, to emerge as president of the association.
After the election, Gerald polled a total of 196 votes to defeat his opponent Essien, who polled 18 vote, while Nsikak Solomon emerged as secretary general winning Jimmy Isong with 159 votes to 47 vote.
Speaking during the manifesto presentation held before the commencement of the election, the AMASCOS adviser, Dr Aniekan James, thanked the head of department, Dr Unwana Charles for giving the students the opportunity to exercise their franchisae while applauding the eleco board chairman, Comr Udeme Nkanta and his team for a great job.
In his speech the immediate-past president AMASCOS, Mr Mfon Charles Monday, lauded the body for conducting a successful, peaceful election.
The new president Alphonsus Gerald thanked the past administration for maintaining peace and also the students who voted for him to become their president, assuring that his reign would bring about meaningful innovations that would help take the association to greater heights.
The new executive would be sworn in on a date to be announced by the authorities of the student body soon.
