…Unveils Plans For Safety Commission

UYO

With spate of collapsed structures around the country and failures at construction sites, the Akwa Ibom government is set to train relevant officers on construction safety even as it plans to set-up a Safety Commission.

The measure is geared at ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the state, through the training of construction workers, journalists and other relevant officers on safety measures toward forestalling mishaps and failures in the construction of buildings and other structures in the state.

The commissioner for information and strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, stated this during a courtesy visit on him by executive members of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, NISE, at the conference room of the ministry, weekend.

Comrade Ini Ememobong said the government has a duty of providing safety for the lives and properties of her citizensand will therefore partner the NISE in its plan to work towards the setting-up of Akwa Ibom Safety Commission for policy implementation and effective supervision on safety in engineering processes.

This measure, according to the information helmsman, will help to regulate the activities of Engineers and construction workers in the state, adding that the safety commission will create employment, generate revenue and put Akwa Ibom in the global map.

The chairman of NISE, Akaninyene Ekong, stated that Gov Udom Emmanuel has changed the orientation of Akwa Ibom people by motivating them to rise to their full capacity with his Dakkada philosophy, reiterating that he is an epitome of Dakkada.

While thanking the governor for making Akwa Ibom adestination, Ekong asserted that as the national president of NISE, he has selected Akwa Ibom as the destination for his investiture as the state has one of the most beautiful hospitality facilities in Nigeria – the Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort.

In attendance at the meeting were directors from Ministry of Information and Strategy, including the director of information and director covering the duties of the permanentsecretary, Akparawa James Edet; Director of Technical Services, Mrs Blessing Urua; Director admin and supplies, Mrs Tiuba Nduonofit; Director public relations, Mrs Grace Akpan; Director of strategy, Elder Joseph Etem; Director of archives, Edet Nsungwara and deputy director of information, Mr Aniekan Ukpong, among others.
