The Governing Council of Akwa Ibom ICONS Award (AKIA) has confered on five indigenes of the state the Akwa Ibom Medal Ser- vice Award for 2021.
Those who made the list of the awardees include: the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Mr Unyime Idem who bagged best performing legislator, 2021; the chairman, Akwa Ibom State En- vironmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Prince Ikim Akpan, went home with, Akwa Ibom best (department and agen- cies-2019/2021); The commis- sioner for culture and tourism, Mr Orman Esin, was presented Akwa Ibom best performing commis- sioner; the chief executive officer of Ubotex group of companies; Elder Ubong Obot, got, Akwa Ibom most sustained business enterprise and Chief Michael Afangideh bagged life time ser- vice achievement.
Presenting the award to the awardees over the weekend in Uyo, the chairperson, Govern- ing Council of AKIA and the wife of a former governor of Akwa- Ibom State, Mosunsola Idongesit Nkanga, who was assisted by the executive secretary, High Prince Ene Baba Owoh, said the award was “in recognition of their ex- ceptional spirit of enterprise an- chored on the determination, cour- age and tenacity in undertaking bold and challenging pursuit that adds value to the developmental
renaissance of Akwa Ibom State and the upliftment of their pro- file among citizens of the state and in the Diaspora.”
They said the award was aimed at “celebrating our own who have distinguished themselves in dif- ferent endeavours”, and their own way of urging them to do more for the state and the society at large, while noting that the crite- ria for selection of the awardees was based on merit.
While noting that the Akwa Ibom ICONS Award was about people, bravery and performance, they added that, “we go for those who have truly demonstrated that can-do spirit of enterprise, stress- ing that admission into the Akwa Ibom hall of fame was very monu- mental.”
Responding, the member rep- resenting Ukanafun/OrukAnam Federal Constituency, Mr Unyime Idem, thanked the orga- nizers for the honour done him, saying that the award was a moti- vating factor that will spur him to continue to do more for the state.
Idem who doubles as the deputy chairman, Communica- tions Committee in the House of Representatives, dedicated the award to God for His wisdom and direction and to his constituents in Ukanafun and Oruk Anam for their continuous support and be- lieve in him.
While commending the organisation for the initiative to come up with the award, Idem, who described it as most credible, charged them to continue to main- tain their integrity.
On his part, the chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental
Protection and Waste Manage- ment Agency (AKSEPWMA), Prince Ikim Akpan, thanked God and the oganizers of the award for the recognition accorded him.
Ikim dedicated the award to his family who he said has been his major inspiration to give his best to the service of the state, and to the workers under his supervision and lauded the organisation for maintaining the integrity.
The commissioner for culture and tourism, Mr Orman Esin, who was represented by Mr Ini Akpabio, thanked the organisation for the honour done him and prayed God to bless them.
