A socio-political group in the state, Mkpo Amaa Change Initiative, has adopted the commissioner for lands and water resources, Pastor Umo Eno, as their sole candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in 2023, even as they promised to sponsor the purchase of nomination form for him.

The group made the adoption during an enlarged executive meeting, which took place in Uyo.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the group said their decision to support Eno for the governorship race was borne out of his capacity to lead the state.

They described Eno as a man of unquestionable and impeccable character, who has over the years excelled as an employer of labour, adding that he has the ability to further consolidate on the gains of the current administration, even as they vowed to utilize its structures for the success of his ambition.

They urged other aspirants in the governorship race to go about their consultations and politicking peacefully, while shunning acts capable of causing disaffection among the people of the state.

While commending the governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for the choice of his successor, the group lauded him for giving a direction for the 2023 gubernatorial polls in the state.

The group passed a vote of confidence on the governor for surpassing expectations, by delivering excellently on the mandate given him by the people in 2015, and thanked him for working tirelessly to sustain peace as well as ensuring massive developmental strides across the state.

In his speech, the international president of the group, Mr Ekpeno Gold, pledged their support to the governor, saying wherever he leads they will go with him.

Gold, who doubles as the special assistant to the governor on social reorientation, encouraged members of the group not to relent in their support for the completion and succession agenda of the governor, assuring that they will all reap the fruit of their support in due course.

He noted that adopting Pastor Umo Eno as their sole candidate meant adopting the sustainability of peace, development and all the industries brought to the state by the present administration.

Gold, who quipped, “we in Mkpo Amaa Change stand in total support of the aspiration of Pastor Umo Eno”, adding, “In Pastor Umo Eno we see leadership, someone who can take the state to the next level and a man who will create job opportunities for the teeming youths of the state.”

He announced their grand inauguration and adoption ceremony billed to take place on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Edet Akpan Avenue field by Water Fountain in Uyo by 10 am.
