The Akwa Ibom government has released additional N1.4 billion for further payment of gratuities to retirees in the State.
A breakdown of the amount shows that N900 million is for retired civil servants, while N500 million is for retired primary school teachers.
The development was contained in a release issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr Ekerete Udoh, and made available to The Pioneer recently.
According to the release, the additional N1.4 billion brings the total amount of monies so far paid as gratuities by Gov Umo Eno’s administration to N16.1 billion, 10 months after his inauguration.
The release noted that though it was an acknowledged fact that gratuities are entitlements, the courage to consistently release funds for the payment further demonstrates Eno’s good approach to governance.
