IKONO

Gov Udom Emmanuel has inaugurated a 3.340km Nung UkimIkot Akpa Etok-Nung Ukim Ikot Ekang road, with spur to Ibiaku Ntok Okpo in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

This brings to 9km the total length of roads completed by his administration within the Nung Ukim communities so far.

Emmanuel charged the contractor handling the 21.5Km UruaNaira road project to hurry up to deliver the project by May next year.

He recounted that during his second term campaigns, he had promised to construct more rural roads and expressed satisfaction that much of such roads have been constructed.

“During this phase of project commissioning, I have been to some communities to see over 13 roads that we constructed. In this Nung Ukim alone, this road makes it 9km what we have done so far,” Emmanuel stated.

Emmanuel, who also responded to the appeal from the paramount ruler of the area, announced that he had since given approval for the upgrade of the Itak Community Secondary School to a full-fledged Government Specialized Secondary School, and urged the local government chairman and commissioner for education to furnish him with the progress of the school immediately.

He also acknowledged that the House of Assembly was already in the process of actualizing the yearnings of the people of the area on the College of Arts and Science in Nung Ukim.

He thanked the youths of the area for their support to contractors in the area, and assured that Pastor Umo Eno, the PDP candidate, would be able to continue from where he would stop in 2023.

The commissioner for special duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Dr Bassey Bassey, said an addition of 500m spur was added to 2.840Km initially approved, making it a total of 3.340km, with 6.68km concrete u-channel drains on both sides of the road and a carriage way of 7.3m width on 40mm asphaltic wearing course, beautified with street lights.

“The Nung Ukim Ikot Akpa Etok to Nung Ukim Ikot Ekangroad has brought immense relief to the people of this area as it aids in conveying farm produce and carrying out other socio-economic activities,” he added.

The chairman of Ikono Local Government area, Mr NyaknoOkoibu and wife were full of praises for the governor for the projects in Ikono, and echoed that the area which was hitherto not considered for any developmental project was now harvesting projects under the watch of the governor.

They narrated that the road is complemented with streetlightingwhich now encourages commercial activities in the evenings for the traders.

The road was constructed by Hensek Integrated Services, and the managing director of the company, Mr Uwem Okoko, was full of praises for the governor for the confidence in him, assuring that the road with side drainages and thick hard components had surpassed the engineering standards for roads in rural communities.

On behalf of PDP candidates of the senatorial district, Emmanuel Enoidem Esq commended the governor on his superlative performance in the senatorial district, and assured that the party will be propelled by the governor to maintain its winning spree in the forthcoming elections.

The paramount ruler of Ikono, Edidem Etim Nnana, said he was celebrating a year in office with the new road in his domain, and thanked Gov Udom Emmanuel for the good roads he has brought to the area and made an appeal for other road projects to be completed as well as the establishment of a government owned secondary school in Itak, Ikono.
