From Emmanuel Iyoho,

ABUJA

Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja and the 19 Northern States will support capable leaders who are available and ready to leadAkwa Ibom State to the next level, president, Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, Aniefiok Ibah has said.

Ibah, a lawyer, stated this while responding to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorships aspirant, Obong Ideh Owodiong -Idemeko who presented his manifesto during the association’s general meeting held in Abuja recently.

Owodiong -Idemeko is seeking nomination of PDP to contest the 2023 elections for the opportunity to manage the affairs of Akwa Ibom State as governor. He is urging the association to support his aspiration ahead 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

The community president while welcoming Obong Ideh Owodiong -Idemeko to the meeting said though the community was apolitical, under his leadership, the community would give its total support to any credible individual or group of persons with proven integrity, capable and available on ground to serve and lead Akwa Ibom State to her rightful position in the committee of states.

President Ibah thanked Owodiong -Idemeko for the visit and recognising the community, saying the association is a voice as far as Akwa Ibom politics is concern.

“If you are able and not available, you are disable. We do not want to support any person or group of persons that will grab power and use it just for his or her personal interest, but we will give our total support to that individual and group of persons capable and well ready to add value to the overall development of the state.”

According to him, Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja and the 19 Northern States have value to add, whatsoever decision we take as Akwa Ibom indigenes in the diaspora    and liaise with our brothers and sisters at home, it becomes law as far as politics is concern.

He charged others aspiring to contest in the 2023 general elections both in the state and at the Federal level to feel free and come for consultation as the community will join forces with people in  the state to ensure that only men and women of proven integrity, capable  and ready to work for interest of the people and Akwa Ibom State as a whole would be supported to emerge as winners.

The president appreciated the governorship hopeful, Owodiong-Idemeko for his presentation, saying we have heard it all. People like you deserve to be in government because you have what it takes to serve the people.

“Our duty is not to endorse but to support. We are carefully assessing all the aspirants, at the end of the day, we will collaborate with our brothers and sisters at home and speak with one voice.”

Earlier, Obong Owodiong-Idemeko, the governorship aspirant had told  the people that  when given the mandate as the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, he would carry every citizen of the state along irrespective of gender, ethnicity etc.

The governorship hopeful said he would recognise and appoint a woman as the chief of staff and ensure that a woman takescharge in the works sector as the commissioner of works under his administration as the governor of Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, my vision is to have a government that recognizes that everyone has a voice and the  elected officials are held  accountable and genuinely for greater opportunities and better lives for the Nigerian people they represent.

Obong Owodiong-Idemeko said, “I will push for larger leadership roles for women in our legislative, executive and judiciary bodies so that Nigerians can benefit from the open minded, productive contributions that women have consistently made in when given the chance to occupy the office.”

He said his mission would be to provide a ‘new social contract’ that would inspire, develop and empower the people.

Pioneer Politics reports that Obong Owodiong-Idemeko, an indigene of Ikot Ukop, Okop Ndua Erong, Ibesikpo-Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is seeking nomination of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2023 general elections.
