Supervisors for agriculture in the 31 local government councils of Akwa Ibom have been reminded of the need for them to explore avenues of encouraging rural dwellers to take active part in agricultural development for food to be sufficient in the state.

The commissioner for agriculture, Dr Glory Edet, gave the advice at a one-day sensitization of agricultural stakeholders on NG-Cares Result Area 2 Akwa Ibom, which took place at the Governor’s Office Annex, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.

Edet said for supervisors of agriculture in the local government councils to be remembered during their reign, they have to be creative by establishing many acres of farm for the engagement of rural dwellers in farming.

She explained that her Ministry decided to carry supervisors of agriculture along to enable them to see what is happening at the state level for them to emulate and reach out to the people at the grassroots for food to be sufficient in the state.

The agric commissioner emphasized the need for supervisors of agriculture at the local government areas to strive hard to create the desired impact on agricultural growth and development in their respective council areas.

She said there was no way they would be remembered if they fail to initiate viable agricultural projects aimed at improving on the well being of rural dwellers in their local government areas.

The commissioner advised agric supervisors to work in liaison with their council chairmen to acquire many acres of land for the initiation of viable agricultural development projects on either crops cultivation or livestock production.

She declared the resolve of her Ministry to cooperate with Akwa Ibom people in the provision of technical advice on agricultural development for the best to be achieved.

The chairman, Forum of Supervisors for Agriculture, Mr Joseph Imang, while presenting a goodwill message, pledged his members’ commitment to ensure that people in their respective local government areas are mobilized to farm for the realization of food sufficiency in the state.

Imang, who is the supervisor for agriculture in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, appreciated the commissioner for agriculture for carrying them along in the implementation of agricultural policy of the state government and assured that his members would not let her down in the growth and development of agriculture in the state.

The head, Credit and Marketing, Ibom Fadama Micro Finance Bank Limited, Mr Bassey Essien, said the bank was established to assist farmers and Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs to attain greatness in their areas of productions in the state.

Essien called on farmers and entrepreneurs to open accounts with the bank to enable them to draw credit facilities and grow their agriculture and business ventures and make profit.
