The Itu Mbonuso Ward 3 Elders Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to cooperate with their daughter and commissioner for agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, for the party to be deep rooted in the area and also win the 2023 general elections for all its candidates in Ini Local Government Area.
Chairman of the Elders Forum, Ambassador Peter Iseh, made their position known at a special forum that was organised by the commissioner for agriculture, at Saint Patrick’s School, Ananamong community to intimate them on what the party is expected of them in the 2023 general elections in the country.
Iseh disclosed that the forum, which was inaugurated in 2019 was further strengthened by the appointment of Offor as commissioner for agriculture, noting that with their daughter as a member of the State Executive Council their collective interest would be protected.
Describing Offor as a patriotic woman leader who would provide clearly defined political direction for Itu Mbonuso PDP Ward 3, he assured that his members were duty bound to support all candidates of the party to succeed in the forthcoming general elections.
He re-echoed the determination of the forum to be in and give to the Peoples Democratic Party in the State, as payback for the dividends the area has so far enjoyed over the years.
Also speaking, the PDP ward chairman, Mr. Essien Effiong, urged the elders to sensitise their family members and neighbours that the Peoples Democratic Party is the answer to good governance.
Effiong added that the commissioner was a gift from God to the area, hence the community must, as a matter of fact, cherish their daughter and support the party, in appreciation of all the good things that the Udom Emmanuel-led administration has done in the state.
In her remarks, the commissioner for agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, said the privilege of appointing her to serve in the State Executive Council, the siting of a coconut plantation, the cocoa drying and fermentation centre all in the area and other development projects by Gov Udom Emmanuel are enough for their massive support for the PDP.
Her words: “PDP’s umbrella is big enough to accommodate all of us. The party reflects development, security and a shield from hardship. Its canopy covers you so let’s come under the canopy of PDP and bring others in to enjoy protection,” Offor appealed.
She admonished the elders to bring back to the fold people who have strayed from the party, ignore the formation of factions and come together under the big umbrella.
“Wherever you see the youth go astray, call them to order. Fatherhood goes beyond just being biological parents to the people including those living in your community. The father is a unifying force and having seen your faces, I am confident that I’ve your support. Where there were difference, let peace reign. Get your Permanent Voter Card so that you can vote for all PDP candidates in the coming elections,” the commissioner advised.
In their separate goodwill messages, the supervisor for Religious Affairs, Ini Local Government Council, Pastor. Silas Ukata; Registrar, College of Science and Technology, Dr. Samuel Owerekpe, and others called on the people to support all PDP candidates in the 2023 general elections.
