2023 Budget: A’Ibom Speaker Tasks MDAs On Compliance With Legislative Processes

As the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation commences work on the 2023 budgetary provision, the speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Aniekan Bassey, has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to comply and cooperate with the committee for smooth delivery and performance.   

The speaker made this known during a public hearing organized by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on 2023 Budget on Wednesday at the Assembly Complex, Uyo.

Represented by the chief whip of the House, Mr Emmanuel Bassey, the speaker said, “To this extent, I want to urge all stakeholders, ministries, departments and agencies of government to cooperate with the House of Assembly during its legislative process so as to make the budget’s consideration and passage seamless.”

The public hearing on A Bill for a Law to Appropriate Monies out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund and Capital Development Fund to the Service of Akwa Ibom State Government and for other Matters Connected therewith had stakeholders across board who spoke on the Appropriation Bill 2023 Including the Akwa Ibom State chairman of Civil Liberty Organizations, Otuekong Franklin Isong.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for finance, Mr. LinusNkang, reviewed the 2022 Budget with 83 per cent realization of projected IGR from January to June. He also gave a rundown of 2023 budget.

Also speaking, the chairman of the Forum of Former Legislators, Mr Saturday Akpan, thanked the committee for past efficient works on state’s appropriation law and urged the committee to replicate same in the 2023 budget.

On his part, the Akwa Ibom state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Sunny James, said allocated funds for pension and gratuity is inadequate and should be reviewed upwards.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Budget Defence of MDAs is slated to commence on Monday, November 21, 2022.
